Man Wanted in 2022 Youngstown Gas Station Killing Arrested by U.S. Marshals

Youngstown, OH – The Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force (NOVFTF) announces the arrest of wanted fugitive Zachary Bair, 33. Bair was wanted by the Youngstown Police Department for aggravated murder.

According to the Youngstown Police Department, on December 22, 2022, officers responded to a gas station on the south side of Youngstown and located Devin Bell, 26, deceased. It is alleged that Bell was shot by two men wearing masks who fled on foot on Samuel Avenue after the shooting. One suspect, Akeem Hargrove, 31, was arrested a few days after Bell was killed and charged with aggravated murder. On May 17, 2024, the Youngstown Police Department issued a warrant for the arrest of Zachary Bair. Today, with the assistance of the Mahoning County Sheriff’s Office, the NOVFTF was able to safely take Bair into custody at a business in the 600 block of Industrial Rd, Youngstown, OH.  

U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott stated, “We could not be as successful at taking as many violent fugitives of the street as we do without the strong support of our local task force partners. Great work by the Youngstown Police Department to identify the second suspect in this investigation and thanks to the Mahoning County Sheriff’s Office for their support in the safe arrest today.”

U.S. Marshals in Connecticut Capture Puerto Rico Man Wanted on Charges in Massachusetts

Hartford, CT – The Connecticut U.S. Marshals Violent Fugitive Task Force, Willimantic SWAT team and detectives’ division today arrested a man wanted in Massachusetts on multiple charges following a December 2023 shooting incident left one man dead.

Lee George-Maldonado, 28, of Puerto Rico, is charged in Massachusetts with murder, carrying a firearm without a license, attempt to commit a crime, kidnapping with a firearm, and two counts of attempted assault and battery with a firearm. Maldonado is also facing domestic violence charges out of Puerto Rico.

Following their investigation into the shooting that left Juan Castro, 44, dead outside his home on Bank Street Dec. 23, 2023, the Fall River, Massachusetts, Police Department obtained an arrest warrant for Maldonado May 17 and requested the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Service to locate and apprehend him.  

The U.S Marshals investigation led them to a residence in the 20 block of Taylor Court in Willimantic, where Maldonado was hiding out.

Maldonado was taken into custody charged as a fugitive from justice and is being held pending extradition to Massachusetts to face the charges against him.

Since the inception of the U.S. Marshals – Connecticut Violent Fugitive Task Force in 1999, these partnerships have resulted in over 11,046 arrests (Updated as of 9/08/2022). The task force’s objective is to seek out and arrest violent fugitives and sexual predators. Membership agencies include Hartford, New Haven, Bridgeport, Norwalk, Waterbury Police Departments and Immigration and Customs Enforcement. These arrests have ranged in seriousness from murder, assault, unregistered sex offenders, probation and parole violations and numerous other serious offenses. Nationally the United States Marshals Service fugitive programs are carried out with local law enforcement in 94 district offices, 85 local fugitive task forces, eight regional task forces, as well as a growing network of offices in foreign countries.

U.S. Marshals Task Force Arrests Hagerstown Man Wanted for Attempted 1st Degree Murder

Charles Town, WV – The U.S. Marshals Mountain State Fugitive Task Force arrested on May 20 a Hagerstown, Maryland, man wanted for first-degree murder and other charges stemming from a January shooting in Charles Town.

Malichi Leech, 19, was charged in Jefferson County May 15 with attempted first-degree murder, four counts of wanton endangerment, and conspiracy resulting from the Jan. 28 shooting on MLK Jr. Boulevard.

On May 17, the Charles Town Police Department asked for the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Mountain State Fugitive Task Force in apprehending Leech. Upon receipt of the case, investigators developed information indicating Leech was in Hagerstown. On May 20, Leech was located and taken into custody without incident at a residence on Wayside Drive.

“Our panhandle communities in West Virginia are frequently terrorized by out-of-state violent criminals”, said Acting U.S. Marshal Terry Moore.  “The Marshals Service’s partnerships with state and local agencies allow task force members to extend their jurisdiction anywhere in the country, bringing those offenders to justice.”

Agencies involved in the arrest were: Berkeley County Sheriffs Office, Charles Town Police Department, Hagerstown Police Department, Maryland State Police, and United States Marshals Service.

Leech was booked into the Washington County Detention Center to await extradition back to West Virginia.  Additional information on this case can be obtained from the Charles Town Police Department.

U.S. Marshals and Memphis Police Capture First Degree Murder Suspect

Memphis, TN – U.S. Marshals and Memphis Police announce the capture Demario Wilson, 18, of Memphis, who was wanted for a deadly shooting and robbery that took place in an apartment complex in the Raleigh area of Memphis last month.

On April 18th, 2024, the Memphis Police Department (MPD) responded to a shooting at Summit Arbors Circle and Hidden Woods Cove. Officers arrived and found a 20-year-old man who sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene. A witness stated it was a robbery over a gaming system. The suspects fled in a black Dodge Charger, which has since been recovered.

On April 29th, Memphis Police obtained a warrant out of Shelby County General Sessions Court charging Wilson with First Degree Murder and Aggravated Robbery. The case was later adopted by the U.S. Marshals Two Rivers Violent Fugitive Task Force (TRVFTF) to find and apprehend Wilson.

Today, the U.S. Marshals TRVFTF and MPD Fugitive Apprehension Team went to a residence in the 2200 block of Eldridge Avenue in Memphis. Investigators knocked and announced at the front door. Wilson tried to flee out a back window but retreated into the house when spotted. Investigators in the backyard called Wilson out from the window, and he surrendered without incident.

The U.S. Marshals Two Rivers Violent Fugitive Task Force is a multi-agency task force within Western Tennessee. The TRVFTF has offices in Memphis and Jackson, and its membership is primarily composed of Deputy U.S. Marshals, Shelby, Fayette, and Tipton County Sheriff’s Deputies, Memphis and Jackson Police Officers, the Tennessee Department of Correction Special Agents and the Tennessee Highway Patrol. Since 2021, the TRVFTF has captured over 2,600 violent offenders and sexual predators.

$5,000 Reward for Fugitive Who Assaulted Off-Duty Police Officer

Philadelphia, PA – The U.S. Marshals Service Eastern Pennsylvania Violent Crime Fugitive Task Force is asking for the public’s assistance in locating Arthur Jones, 38. 

On May 14, a warrant for aggravated assault, robbery, and firearm possession was issued by the Philadelphia Police Department for Jones’ role in the assault of an off-duty Philadelphia Police Officer. The Marshals Service Violent Crimes Fugitive Task is assisting the Philadelphia Police in locating and apprehending Jones.

The U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) and Philadelphia Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 5 are each offering a $2,500 reward for information leading to Jones arrest. The $5,000 reward will be processed immediately upon arrest and not upon conviction.

Jones stands 5 feet 6 inches and weighs approximately 160 pounds. He has black hair, brown eyes, and has a tattoo of dice on his left forearm. His last known address was in the 600 block of W. Harold Street.

“A fugitive who has been charged with assaulting a law enforcement officer becomes a priority case for this task force. We are hoping the public can provide information which will expedite bringing a dangerous individual to justice,” said Supervisory Deputy U.S. Marshal Robert Clark.

U.S. Marshals, NYPD Arrest Fugitive Wanted in May 7 SoHo Execution-Style Murder of 16-Year-Old Boy

New York, NY – At approximately 5:00 a.m. today, the U.S. Marshals (USMS) with the Southern District of New York (SDNY) Warrant Squad and USMS New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force (NY/NJRFTF), along with the New York Police Department (NYPD), arrested a man wanted for a May 7 murder in SoHo.  

Henry Thomas, 19, is alleged to have committed the execution-style murder of Mahki Brown, 16, of Brooklyn, who was leaving school just before 2:30 p.m. on Spring Street between Varick Street and Sixth Avenue in SoHo.

The shooting allegedly started when a dispute erupted between Brown and a small group of individuals who intercepted him while riding Citi bikes as he was leaving school. During the dispute, Thomas allegedly brandished a gun, firing multiple rounds at Brown, shooting him in the back of the head and twice in the leg before the group fled on the Citi bikes. The boy was rushed to the hospital where he died from his injuries.

After the crime was reported on May 8 the case was rapidly adopted by the USMS SDNY Warrant Squad, working closely with the NYPD.

Investigators developed information that led them to an apartment complex in the Upper East side of Manhattan where Thomas was identified, apprehended and turned over to the 32nd Precinct NYPD detective squad for further questioning and processing.  The search for his accomplice is continuing.

The NY/NJRFTF was the flagship that has allowed seven other regional fugitive task forces to be created across the country. With partnership agreements with over 90 federal, state, or local agencies and 13 fully operational offices, the NY/NJRFTF has successfully apprehended over 95,000 fugitives since inception. 

U.S. Marshals and Franklin County SWAT Capture Columbus Attempted Murder Suspect

Columbus, OH – The U.S. Marshals Southern Ohio Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team (SOFAST) and Franklin County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) SWAT arrested fugitive De Tronne Marshall-Dennis on May 17, 2024. De Tronne Marshall-Dennis was wanted by the Columbus Division of Police for allegedly shooting a victim. Marshall-Dennis was indicted in the Franklin County Common Pleas Court on May 14, 2024, and charged with Attempted Murder, Discharging a Firearm, Felonious Assault, Tampering with Evidence, and Weapon Under Disability. SOFAST adopted the case, and discovered Marshall-Dennis was still in the Columbus area. This investigation led the U.S. Marshals Task Force and FCSO SWAT to the 3200 block of Sterling Lane in Columbus where Marshall-Dennis was arrested without incident. He is being held at the Franklin County Jail.

Marshals Arrest Handcuffed Escapee Who Fled After Arrest

Philadelphia, PA – Members of the U.S. Marshals Eastern Pennsylvania Violent Crimes Fugitive Task Force arrested Nafiysh Knox-Schenck, 32, at approximately 12:30 p.m. in the 600 block of West Girard Avenue. On Monday May 13th, Knox-Schenck was under arrest for firearm violations when an individual opened the rear door of the police vehicle allowing Knox-Schenck to flee on foot. A warrant for escape was issued and on Tuesday, May 14th, the Marshals Fugitive Task Force in Philadelphia was asked to assist.

At approximately 7:00 a.m. this morning, investigators from the Task Force conducted surveillance on a condominium complex in the Northern Liberties section of Philadelphia they believed Knox-Schneck was presently hiding. At 12:30 p.m. Task Force investigators knocked and announced their presence on the sixth-floor unit Knox-Schneck was suspected to be in and Knox-Schenck immediately surrendered to Marshals.

18-Year-Old Female Arrested by U.S. Marshals for Cleveland Homicide

Cleveland, OH – Today, members of the U.S. Marshals led Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force (NOVFTF) arrested Leonai Johnson, 18, who was wanted by the Cleveland Division of Police for aggravated murder.

According to the Cleveland Division of Police, on May 3, 2024, officers from the 3rd District responded to the area of the 2400 block of Central Ave. and discovered 28-year-old female, Christie Bozeman, inside her apartment with multiple gunshot wounds. EMS on scene attempted to render aid but Bozeman later succumbed to her injuries at MetroHealth hospital. Leonai Jonson was later identified as a suspect in this fatal incident and a warrant was issued for her arrest. This morning, members of the NOVFTF arrested Johnson in an apartment near the 2400 block of Central Ave., Cleveland.

U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott stated, “The U.S. Marshals and the Cleveland Division of Police will continue to work hand in hand to make the city of Cleveland safer. Those who commit violent crimes will be charged and our task force will relentlessly pursue them until their arrest.”
