SAN DIEGO — The Coast Guard saves multiple individuals who were in distress following flash flooding in the vicinity of San Diego, Friday evening. Coast Guard Sector San Diego Joint Harbor Operations Center watchstanders received an agency assist request from the Imperial County Sheriffs to aid in the rescue of an individual stranded in a semi-truck in a swiftly moving wash. The crew of Coast Guard Cutter Heriberto Hernandez crew repatriated 59 migrants to Dominican Republic, Thursday, following the interdiction of two overloaded vessels in Mona Passage waters off the west coast of Puerto Rico. “Irregular migration voyages in the Mona Passage are highly dangerous and an unlawful means to enter the United States,” said Cmdr. Gerard Wenk, Sector San Juan chief of response.  “Anyone thinking of taking part in one of these voyages must understand that their life will be at risk, and when they are interdicted at sea or apprehended ashore, they will not be allowed to stay in Puerto Rico or the U.S. Virgin Islands.”

Coast Guard transfers custody of 3 suspected smugglers, offloads $19 million in seized cocaine in San Juan, Puerto Rico

The crew of Coast Guard Cutter Donald Horsley (WPC – 1117) offloaded approximately 1,709 pounds of seized cocaine and transferred custody of three suspected male smugglers to federal law enforcement authorities in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Thursday. The suspected smugglers are Venezuelan nationals who now face criminal prosecution by the U.S. Department of Justice in the U.S. Federal District Court in Puerto Rico.  The seized contraband is estimated to have a wholesale value of $19 million.

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. ⎯ The Coast Guard rescued three people from the water Tuesday, after their vessel capsized 4 nautical miles offshore near Saxon Harbor, Wisconsin.
