Coast Guard, local emergency response teams search for female tourist off Condado Beach in San Juan, Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico – Coast Guard air and surface rescue teams continue searching alongside local emergency authorities for a missing person off Condado Beach in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Still missing is a 22-year-old woman from Indianapolis who was visiting the island and went swimming with two of her friends, who were caught in the strong rip currents affecting the area.   The woman’s friends were rescued and assisted ashore by local bystanders and responding authorities.  The missing woman reportedly was wearing a white shirt, pants and beach swim wear.

WILMINGTON, N.C. — The Coast Guard, along with federal and state partners, are scheduled to hold an active-shooter/active threat full-scale exercise Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., in the vicinity of the Cherry Branch Ferry Terminal in Havelock, North Carolina.

Coast Guard, Dominican Republic Navy rescue 20 migrants from sinking vessel in Atlantic Ocean

The crews of Coast Guard Cutter Joseph Tezanos and Dominican Republic Navy patrol boat Capella rescued 20 migrants from a disabled vessel taking on water in the Atlantic Ocean, Monday night.  The crew of a Coast Guard HC-144 Ocean Sentry aircraft detected a suspect 20-foot migrant vessel, approximately 30 nautical miles northeast of Samana, Dominican Republic.  The Coast Guard aircrew reported seeing the migrants signaling for assistance and bailing out water from the makeshift vessel.

PORTSMOUTH, Va. — U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Northland (WMEC 904) completed Operation Nanook, an annual exercise led by the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) and supported by the U.S. 2nd Fleet and U.S. Coast Guard, on Aug. 26. Op Nanook is the CAF’s signature operation. It delivers Arctic training, develops partnerships, and improves readiness among its participants. Operation Nanook Tuuglaalik is the maritime multi-national cooperation with allied navies. It reinforces the CAF as a key maritime partner and expert in Arctic safety, security and defense matters in Canada’s high northern latitudes and within the circumpolar strategic context. A more persistent high north presence through Tuuglaalik will enhance surveillance and control in the Arctic region.
