U.S. Central Command conducts 11th Humanitarian Airdrop into Gaza

TAMPA, Fla. – U.S. Central Command conducted the 11th air drop of humanitarian assistance into Northern Gaza on March 15, 2024, at 12:12 p.m. (Gaza time) to provide essential relief to civilians affected by the ongoing conflict.

The joint operation included two C-130s and one C-17 Globemaster III U.S. Air Force aircraft, and U.S. Army Soldiers specialized in aerial delivery of U.S humanitarian assistance supplies.

U.S. C-17 and C-130s dropped over 35,700 U.S. meals ready to eat and 31,800 bottles of water into Northern Gaza, an area of great need, allowing for civilian access to the critical aid.

The DoD humanitarian airdrops contribute to ongoing U.S. and partner-nation government efforts to alleviate human suffering. These airdrops are part of a sustained effort, and we continue to plan follow-on aerial deliveries.

TAMPA, Fla. – Between 6:50 a.m. on March 14 and 12:40 a.m. on March 15 (Sanaa time), Iranian-backed Houthi terrorists fired two anti-ship ballistic missiles (ASBMs) from Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen toward the Gulf of Aden and two additional ASBMs towards the Red Sea. There were no injuries or damage reported to U.S. or coalition ships.

Additionally, United States Central Command successfully engaged and destroyed nine anti-ship missiles and two unmanned aerial vehicles in Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen. It was determined these weapons presented an imminent threat to merchant vessels and U.S. Navy ships in the region. These actions are taken to protect freedom of navigation and make international waters safer and more secure for U.S. Navy and merchant vessels.

Combined Forces Complete 10th Humanitarian Airdrop into Gaza

TAMPA, Fla. – U.S. Central Command and the Royal Jordanian Air Force conducted a combined humanitarian assistance airdrop into Northern Gaza on March 14, 2024, at 11:57 a.m. (Gaza time) to provide essential relief to civilians in Gaza affected by the ongoing conflict.

The combined joint operation included Jordanian provided food and a U.S. Air Force C-130 aircraft. A U.S. C-130 dropped 13,900 meal equivalents, providing life-saving humanitarian assistance in Northern Gaza.

The DoD humanitarian airdrops contribute to ongoing U.S. and partner-nation government efforts to alleviate human suffering. These airdrops are part of a sustained effort, and we continue to plan follow-on aerial deliveries.

TAMPA, Fla. – Between 2:00 a.m. and 4:50 p.m. (Sanaa time) on March 13, Iranian-backed Houthi terrorists fired one anti-ship ballistic missile from Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen into the Gulf of Aden. The missile did not impact any vessels and there were no injuries or damage reported.

United States Central Command then successfully engaged and destroyed four unmanned aerial systems (UAVs) and one surface-to-air missile in Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen.

It was determined these weapons presented an imminent threat to merchant vessels and U.S. Navy ships in the region. These actions are taken to protect freedom of navigation and make international waters safer and more secure for U.S. Navy and merchant vessels.

TAMPA, Fla. – U.S. Central Command conducted the ninth air drop of humanitarian assistance into Northern Gaza on March 13, 2024, at 1:17 p.m. (Gaza time) to provide essential relief to civilians affected by the ongoing conflict. 

The joint operation included two C-130s and one C-17 Globemaster III U.S. Air Force aircraft, and U.S. Army Soldiers specialized in aerial delivery of U.S. humanitarian assistance supplies. 

U.S. C-17 and C-130s dropped over 35,712 U.S. meal equivalents and 28,800 bottles of water into Northern Gaza, an area of great need, allowing for civilian access to the critical aid. This was the first time a C-17 was used to deliver aid since the air dropping of humanitarian aid began on March 2, 2024.

TAMPA, Fla. – Between 2:00 a.m. and 4:30 a.m. (Sanaa time) on March 12, Iranian-backed Houthi terrorists fired one close-range ballistic missile from Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen toward USS Laboon in the Red Sea. The missile did not impact the vessel and there were no injuries or damage reported.

United States Central Command and a coalition vessel successfully engaged and destroyed two unmanned aerial systems (UAS) launched from a Houthi-controlled area of Yemen.

It was determined these weapons presented an imminent threat to merchant vessels and U.S. Navy ships. These actions are taken to protect freedom of navigation and make international waters safer and more secure for U.S. Navy and merchant vessels.

The combined joint operation included Jordanian provided food and a U.S. Air Force C-130 aircraft. A U.S. C-130 dropped approximately 5,280 pounds of food, including rice, flour, pasta, and canned food, providing life-saving humanitarian assistance in Northern Gaza.

DTRA’s Biological Threat Reduction Program and the Tripartite Health Organizations conduct workshop on Zoonotic Workforce Development.

ALMATY, Kazakhstan – In partnership with The Defense Threat Reduction Agency’s Biological Threat Reduction Program and the Tripartite health organizations (World Health Organization (WHO), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), and the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH)), conducted a workshop aimed at fortifying and mobilizing Kazakhstan’s workforce for effective preparedness and response to zoonotic disease outbreaks Jan. 23-25 in Almaty, Kazakhstan.

At the core of this workshop was the piloting of the Workforce Development Operational Tool, an integral component of the Tripartite Zoonoses Guide. This tool, implemented by the Tripartite partners, strives to enhance multisectoral One Health competency and collaboration on a national scale, fostering a workforce capable of safeguarding against biological risks to human and animal life.

Guided by the WHO and attended by representatives from human, animal, and environmental sectors, the workshop undertook a comprehensive workforce analysis. This analysis addressed occupational gaps and identified areas for improvement, culminating in the development of an action plan by Kazakhstan. This action plan is designed to attain specified competencies for professionals overseeing human and animal health.

Recognizing that intersectoral coordination is pivotal in establishing a resilient workforce for zoonotic disease preparedness and response, the workshop emphasized the importance of enhancing communication practices across sectors. This collaborative effort facilitates the cultivation of sustainable solutions to biological threat reduction challenges.

The collaboration between DTRA, the Tripartite health organizations, and the Government of Kazakhstan stands as a testament to their commitment to fortify Kazakhstan’s One Health workforce. This joint effort is poised to support the prevention and control of zoonotic disease outbreaks not only in Kazakhstan but throughout Central Asia.

TAMPA, Fla. – Between 8:50 a.m. and 12:50 p.m. (Sanaa time) on March 11, Iranian-backed Houthi terrorists fired two anti-ship ballistic missiles from Houthi-controlled areas of into the Red Sea toward merchant vessel Pinocchio, a Singaporean-owned, Liberian-flagged ship. The missiles did not impact the vessel and there were no injuries or damage reported.

Between 2:50-11:30 p.m. (Sanaa time) on March 11, United States Central Command conducted six self-defense strikes destroying an unmanned underwater vessel and 18 anti-ship missiles in Houthi controlled areas of Yemen. It was determined these weapons presented an imminent threat to merchant vessels and U.S. Navy ships in the region. These actions are taken to protect freedom of navigation and make international waters safer and more secure for U.S. Navy and merchant vessels.
