Detectives in Westminster are appealing for help to identify a man wanted in connection with a fraud committed against a vulnerable 92-year-old man.

CCTV footage and a still image released by police show a man who police want to speak with in connection with this incident. He is described by the victim as being of Middle Eastern appearance and in his late twenties.

Detective Constable James Kapp, of Westminster CID, said: “The suspect targeted an elderly man by calling him on 5 December, and convincing him that he worked for ‘The Barclays Fraud Squad’.

“Meetings were arranged in the St John’s Wood area on 5 December and again on 6 December, and the victim handed over around £10,000 to the suspect.

“The victim soon realised that he had been the victim of a fraud, but by then it was too late.”

Anyone who recognises the male pictured or has information concerning this incident is asked to call police via 101 quoting reference number 4103/090218.

To prevent becoming a victim of courier fraud, and related offences such as this, police are asking the public to be aware of the following crime prevention reminders:

– Police and banks will never ask for your PIN or bank card.

– Equally, they will never arrange to meet you to exchange cash or bank cards.

– If you are contacted by someone who asks for these, hang up.

– Report any such calls to police by dialling 101. If possible, try to use a different phone to the one called by potential fraudsters; for instance, use a mobile if the suspicious call was made to your landline, and vice versa. If you need to use the same phone, wait at least five minutes for the line to clear.

– In an emergency, call police on 999.

– If you have elderly friends or relatives, please remind them periodically of the methods used by such fraudsters.

Police remain at the scene of a World War II ordnance discovered in the River Thames at George V Dock, E16.

The unexploded ordnance was discovered as part of pre-planned work at London City Airport and reported to the police at 05:06hrs on Sunday, 11 February. Specialist officers and the Royal Navy have attended and confirmed the nature of the device.

At around 22:00hrs on Sunday, 11 February an operational decision was made with the Royal Navy to implement a 214-metre exclusion zone to ensure that the ordnance can be safely dealt with whilst limiting any risk to the public.

Overnight, officers have been helping to evacuate properties within the exclusion zone and police are working with the local authority to provide residents with temporary emergency accommodation and the appropriate support.

A number of road cordons are in place, and motorists planning to travel through this part of Newham borough are urged to seek alternative routes.

The operation to remove the ordnance is ongoing in partnership with our colleagues in the Royal Navy. While we endeavour to progess the operation as quickly as possible and minimise disruption, it is important that all of the necessary steps and precautions are taken to ensure it is dealt with safely. Police are responding to a World War Two ordnance in the River Thames at George V Dock, E16.

The ordnance was discovered as part of pre-planned work at London City Airport and reported to the police at 05:06hrs on Sunday, 11 February.

The operation to remove the ordnance is ongoing in partnership with our colleagues in the Royal Navy.

There will also be disruption to inbound and outbound flights during the operation. London City Airport are urging passengers to contact their airline before travelling.

Appeal for woman missing from Chelsea

Police are appealing for help to find a woman who is missing from Chelsea.

Mahboubeh Haddadzadeh, 54, was last heard from at 10:00hrs on Saturday, 10 February when she told her family that she intended to visit Brighton. She has not been heard from since.

She is described as white, of slim build with black hair.

She is believed to be wearing a black or navy jacket, white Skechers trainers with gold zips and earmuffs. She is thought to be carrying a brown shoulder bag.

Her disappearance is out of character and Mahboubeh’s family is growing increasingly concerned for her welfare.

Detectives investigating the murder of a woman at a residential address in Fellows Road, Camden, have arrested two people.

A 43-year-old woman [A] and a 28-year-old man [B] were both arrested on suspicion of murder at separate address in Kilburn on the morning of Sunday, 11 February.

They were taken to separate central London police stations where they remain in custody.

Police were called by London Ambulance Service [LAS] at around 10:30hrs on Friday, 9 February, to reports of the body of a woman found inside a flat in Fellows Road, NW3.

Officers attended along with LAS and found a woman suffering from stab injuries. She was pronounced dead at the scene. A post-mortem examination will be conducted on Monday, 12 February, at St Pancras Mortuary.

Next of kin have been notified and the victim can be named as Hannah Leonard, 55, (21.8.62) of Fellows Road, Camden.

Detectives are appealing for information and witnesses after a female pensioner was struck by a large pellet in Chessington.

Police were called at 19:37hrs on Saturday, 10 February, to Hook Road, Chessington, following reports of a suspected shooting and a woman injured.

Officers attended along with London Ambulance Service.

A 74-year-old woman was found suffering an arm injury. She was taken to a south London hospital for treatment to a broken arm.

A police investigation is underway. At this stage, officers believe the injuries were caused by a large pellet that may have been fired from a catapult or similar device.

Officers investigating the murder of Kwabena Nelson in Haringey on 3 February have charged a man.

Neron Quartey, 20 (22.03.1997) was charged on the evening of Saturday, 10 February with murder, aggravated vehicle taking and driving without insurance.

He has been remanded in custody to appear at Highbury Magistrates Court on Monday, 12 February.

Detectives investigating the stabbing of a 35-year-old man at Thomas Street, Woolwich at 01.23hrs on Saturday, 10 February have charged a man.

Nathan Grannum-Paul, 25 (1.3.92) of no fixed address, was charged on Sunday, 11 February with grievous bodily harm, possession of a bladed article in a public place and possession of Class B drugs.

He is remanded in custody to appear at Bromley Magistrates Court via video link on Monday 12 February.

Police were called by London Ambulance Service at around 10:30hrs on Friday, 9 February, to reports of the body of a woman found inside a flat in Fellows Road, NW3.

Officers attended along with the LAS and found a woman suffering from stab injuries. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Next of kin have been made aware.

Although police are confident they know the identity of the deceased, we await formal identification. A post-mortem examination will be conducted on Monday, 12 February, at St Pancras Mortuary.
