Two police officers were injured in the line of duty while making an arrest in Ealing in the early hours of today, Tuesday 13 February.

The officers were on patrol in a marked police car in Acton High Street at about 02:25hrs when they saw two males acting suspiciously.

When the officers pulled up alongside them they ran off.

Officers pursued on foot.

As they tried to detain one of the suspects, a 17-year-old male, he became aggressive and head-butted one of the officers in the face [Officer 1].

There was a struggle as the officers continued to try and detain the suspect, which resulted in both officers receiving stab injuries to their hands.

More officers arrived on scene and the suspect was arrested on suspicion of attempted grievous bodily harm and possession of an offensive weapon.

He has been taken to a north London police station where he remains in custody.

Both officers received first aid at the scene and were taken to a north London hospital.

Officer 1 suffered facial injuries and a laceration to his hand. He has since been discharged from hospital.

Officer 2 suffered a stab injury to his finger and requires surgery. He remains in hospital.

Detectives from Ealing CID are investigating.

Ealing Borough Commander Chief Superintendent Paul Martin said: “This incident is a reminder of the dangers that police officers face on a daily basis while carrying out their duties protecting Londoners.

“Policing is by its very nature unpredictable – however no officer should be subject to such a violent attack.

“I have spoken with the officers who are in good spirits and we will support the officers and their families through this difficult time.”

Detectives who previously released images of two men sought in connection with a firearms incident in Newham have charged a man.

On Saturday, 30 December 2017, police received reports that shots had been fired in Butchers Road, Canning Town at around 03:25hrs.

Chris Kaba, 19, (23.07.1998) of Bowen Street, SE26 was charged on Sunday, 11 February, with possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.

He appeared in custody at Thames Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 12 February.

Police continue to appeal for information to identify a second suspect, shown on CCTV at the scene. He is described as a black male, wearing black joggers, black trainers and a black coat with a light-coloured fur hood.

Detectives investigating the fatal stabbing of a 19-year-old man in Streatham have charged Ronny Padilla, 23 (14.1.95) of Hopton Road, Streatham SW16, with murder.

He was charged in the early hours of Tuesday, 13 February.

Padilla is remanded in custody to appear at Camberwell Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 13 February.

The victim – who has not yet been formally identified – was found stabbed in Hopton Road at around 15:50hrs on Sunday, 11 February and died at the scene.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses after an elderly man was attacked and robbed.

Police were called at 07:10hrs on 22 November 2017, after a 90-year-old man reported being assaulted and pushed to the floor, before having his wallet stolen in Jerome Crescent, NW8.

The victim was leaving a residential address when a man and woman approached him from behind.

They struck the victim around the back of the head and pushed him to the floor before the woman took his wallet, which contained cash and bank cards.

Police are looking to speak to a black man, aged in his 30s, who is described as having a muscular build and 6ft 1in tall. He was wearing a light coloured hooded top, black trousers and white trainers.

The female suspect is described as white, aged in her early 30s, with red hair, approximately 5ft 9ins tall and of a thin build. She was wearing a yellow coat and carrying a large black bag.

It is thought that she might be local to the area.

Detective Sergeant Jonathan Bradshaw, from Westminster CID, said: “The victim was attacked and robbed of his pension money as he was heading to see a friend. Luckily he sustained no injuries but was left shaken up by the attack.

“This was a cowardly attack on a vulnerable man, who was unable to fight back and defend himself. We’re very keen to find the perpetrators and are appealing for anyone who may have been in the area at the time of the incident to contact police.”

Two people have been charged with the murder of Hannah Leonard in Camden.

[A] Lucy Casey, 43 (30.10.74) and [B] James Whitaker, 28 (03.06.89), both of Kilburn, Brent, were charged with murder on the evening of Monday, 12 February.

This follows their arrests on the morning of Sunday, 11 February.

They have been remanded in custody to appear at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 13 February.

Hannah Leonard, 55, was found deceased at a flat in Fellows Road, Camden NW3 on the morning of Friday, 9 February.

The World War II ordnance found in the River Thames at King George V Dock, E16, in the early hours of Sunday, 11 February is now in the process of being transported to a secure area for disposal.

At approximately 18:00hrs on Monday, 12 February, the device was removed from its original position and taken to a secondary location within the dock.

A new exclusion zone was implemented and residents within this area were asked, from early evening, to evacuate to temporary emergency accommodation which was provided by the local council. All of these residents can now return home.

The transportation of the device – confirmed by Met and Royal Navy dive teams as a 500kg tapered end shell measuring approximately 1.5m – will impact on river traffic and motorists are advised that bridges along the route will be temporarily closed to traffic.

While every effort is being made to progress the operation as quickly as possible, it is important that all of the necessary steps and precautions are taken to ensure it is dealt with safely.

Appeal for missing elderly woman

Police are appealing for help to find an elderly woman who is missing after walking out of hospital.

Ellen Ward, 81, was last seen at approximately 15:00hrs on Monday, 12 February at University College Hospital.

She is believed to have been sighted on Gower Street at 16:35hrs heading towards Kings Cross.

Mrs Ward is described as white, 5ft 3ins tall, of slim build with grey hair.

When last seen, she was wearing a distinction white coat with large black buttons, beige trousers and brown boots. She also has a brace on her right leg.

Officers are growing increasingly concerned for Mrs Ward’s welfare as she has dementia and is likely to be confused.

Police continue to work with Royal Navy partners to safely remove and dispose of World War II ordnance that was discovered in the River Thames at King George V Dock, E16, in the early hours of Sunday, 11 February.

The device was examined by Met and Royal Navy dive teams and confirmed as a 500kg tapered end shell measuring approximately 1.5m.

The device has been removed from its original position and taken to a secondary location within the dock.

Residents displaced by the initial operation today can now return to their homes.

Police continue to work with Royal Navy partners to safely remove a World War II ordnance discovered in the River Thames at George V Dock, E16, in the early hours of Sunday, 11 February.

The device has been examined by Met Police and Royal Navy dive teams and is confirmed as being a 500kg tapered end shell measuring approximately 1.5m.

It is lying in a bed of dense silt and the first stage of the removal operation is to free the shell from the silt so that it can be floated for removal.

The operation to remove the ordnance is ongoing in partnership with our colleagues in the Royal Navy. The timing of removal is dependant on the tides, however, at this stage we estimate that the removal of the device from location will be completed by tomorrow morning.

While every effort is being made to progress the operation as quickly as possible, it is important that all of the necessary steps and precautions are taken to ensure it is dealt with safely.

We would like to thank everyone affected for their patience and cooperation. Every effort is being made to minimise disruption and officers continue to go door to door to ensure that those living within the exclusion zone are aware of the safety arrangements in place.

Detectives in Hackney were seeking to trace a man who was wanted on recall to prison after breaching the conditions of his licence.

Mark Christopher Woolley, 52, (20.6.65), of Albion Road, Hackney was released on licence from HMP Ranby on 16 November 2017.

Wooley was arrested this afternoon, Monday, 12 February at an address in north London.

He is currently in custody at a north London police station.
