Dense jungle canopy, oppressive heat and unforgiving terrain tested U.S. and Panamanian service members during the Combined Jungle Operations Training Course (CJOTC). Conducted Nov. 28–Dec. 15, the 17-day course pushed participants to refine the skills needed to operate effectively in jungle environments while strengthening multinational interoperability.

BUSAN, South Korea — The Embassy of Thailand hosted an interment ceremony Dec. 12 at the United Nations Memorial Cemetery in Korea to honor two Thai veterans who served under the United Nations Command during the Korean War: Reserve Sgt. Manoch Pummaneekorn of the Royal Thai Navy and Private Narong “Kae” Yeamniyom of the Royal Thai Army.

BATAM, Indonesia — U.S. Navy Sailors from Independence-variant littoral combat ship USS Cincinnati (LCS 20) and Commander, Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 7, rejoined service members from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) ashore in Batam, after concluding the ASEAN-U.S. Maritime Exercise (AUMX) sea phase in the Singapore Strait, Dec. 13.

SUVA, Fiji — It was hard to overlook the timing of Veterans Day this year for many attending Exercise Cartwheel here. The annual training exercise brought military participants from Australia, Fiji, France, Germany, Japan, New Zealand, United Kingdom, and the U.S. together to enhance combat readiness and interoperability.

CHEONAN CITY, South Korea — More than 300 Korean citizens, government officials, and U.S. service members gathered on July 8, 2025, in Martin Park, near the site of the Battle of Cheonan to commemorate the loss of 109 U.S. Soldiers who died there at the start of the Korean War.

Navy Adm. Alvin Holsey relinquished duties as commander of U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) to Air Force Lt. Gen. Evan L. Pettus during a ceremony at the command’s headquarters Dec. 12 in Doral, Florida. Holsey is retiring after more than 37 years of service in the U.S. Navy.
