Appeal to identify man in connection with murder of Jason Diallo

Source: United Kingdom London Metropolitan Police

Four years on from a fatal shooting in Ilford, detectives are releasing footage of a man they would like to identify.

An investigation was launched on 1 November 2020 when officers were called to Balfour Road, Ilford at 22:14hrs following reports of a disturbance.

Officers arrived at the scene and located Jason Diallo, 30 with multiple injuries. He sadly died at the scene.

A witness told officers that they had seen Jason cycling along the road, when he was knocked off his bike by a car. Two occupants of the car got out and shot Jason in the head before driving away.

Fifteen minutes after Jason Diallo was shot, at 22:29hrs, police were called to a shooting around five miles away in Garvary Road, E16. A 27-year-old man was found with a gunshot injury to his shoulder.

He was taken to hospital with gunshot wounds which were determined not to be life-threatening. When providing a statement to officers, he told them he had been followed by three men driving a car who began shooting at him.

A complex investigation was launched within Specialist Crime North and two men were convicted and sentenced for their involvement.

On Tuesday, 14 June 2022, Mushin Mohamed, 28 (06.04.1996) of Leytonstone Road, E15 was found guilty of murder and attempted murder at the Old Bailey and sentenced to life in prison to serve a minimum of 35 years.

Tyrelle Joseph, 24 (16.09.2000) of Banks Way, E12 was found guilty of assisting an offender and jailed for seven years after being identified as someone who had helped Mohamed and the unidentified suspects leave the scene.

Enquiries have remained ongoing to identify two more suspects believed to be involved in the shootings that night.

Investigating officers are now in a position to release this footage of a man they would like to speak with in connection with this investigation and a financial reward for information is available.

The Metropolitan Police Service is offering a substantial reward of up to £20,000 for information leading to the identification, arrest and prosecution of the person responsible for the murder of Jason Diallo and the non-fatal shooting of a 27-year-old man on 1 November 2020.

Detective Chief Inspector Kelly Allen, the senior investigating officer, said:

“We have continued our momentum behind this investigation to ensure that those responsible for killing Jason Diallo and seriously injuring another man are held accountable.

“Our enquiries have found no evidence to suggest that Jason Diallo or the attempted murder victim were known to one another or those convicted, suggesting that this was a completely unprovoked and violent incident.

“Jason Diallo was described by his family as a devoted father of two who had the softest heart. Our thoughts have remained with his family and friends throughout a difficult four years and we are determined that they see justice.

“We are now in a position to release an image of this man, who we would like to speak with in connection with this ongoing investigation.

“If you know who he is or have any information which could help us, please get in contact.”

Anyone with information that could help the investigation is asked to call 101 quoting Operation Shenley. You can also report information anonymously to Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 111.

Met sets out policing plan ahead of a busy weekend of events in London

Source: United Kingdom London Metropolitan Police

Update and information on the policing operation for events in London this weekend.

An event has been organised by the Palestine Solidarity Campaign (PSC) in central London on Saturday 2 November. Officers will also be policing international sporting events, several football fixtures and a presence at large public events and fireworks displays throughout the weekend.

In relation to the PSC event, our goal has been to protect the lawful right to protest whilst minimising the impact of these events on those who live, work and visit London.

We have engaged with the PSC and agreed a route and timings of the event. To help provide clarity to those taking part and to assist their travel plans we have imposed conditions on the protest to minimise any disruption.

The PSC march will form up in Whitehall from midday and commence at 12.45, proceeding across Vauxhall Bridge to Nine Elms where a rally will take place near the US Embassy, concluding by 16.00.

‘Stop The Hate UK’ will hold a counter protest on the corner of Millbank and Vauxhall Bridge to voice opposition to the PSC march. Replicating the approach to the PSC, we have engaged and agreed the location and conditions to their protest to minimise disruption to the public.

A large ticketed fireworks event in Battersea Park is taking place in the early evening. We call on participants of the PSC march to conclude promptly at 16.00 and all protestors to consider their travel plans carefully as public transport and venues throughout the area will be extremely busy.

We encourage participants of the ‘Stop The Hate UK’ protest to head towards Pimlico and Victoria Stations, and those on the PSC march to head away from Battersea and towards Vauxhall when leaving the area and to check online for the latest travel information.

Officers are engaging in advance with businesses, residents and venues along the route to help minimise disruption and respond to any concerns on the day.

Commander Adam Slonecki, who is leading this weekend’s policing operation, said: “Ahead of the weekend we have been in regular discussions with the PSC as well as residents, partners, community groups and businesses. It’s a busy weekend of events across London and we have worked with organisers to seek to minimise disruption and balance the right to protest.

“Officers will be highly visible along the protest route and wider area to ensure the events take place safely and deal with any offences.”

Former officer to appear in court charged with rape

Source: United Kingdom London Metropolitan Police

A former Metropolitan Police officer is due to appear in court charged with rape.

David Campbell – who was a police constable within the Frontline Policing command – will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 1 November, charged with one count of rape and one count of misconduct in public office.

The rape charge relates to a victim who was 16 or 17 years old when the alleged offence took place in 2011 in north London. It was reported to police in December 2022.

Former PC Campbell – who was off duty when the offence was said to have taken place – was arrested in February 2023 and immediately suspended from duty.

Detective Chief Superintendent Simon Stancombe, Professionalism, said: “I know the concern these very serious charges will raise. Officers from our dedicated Domestic Abuse and Sexual Offending (DASO) team have worked diligently to bring this matter to court at the earliest opportunity. It would be inappropriate for us to discuss the charges in further detail at this time as we must allow the judicial process to take place without prejudice.”

Former PC Campbell no longer works for the Met. We will not be discussing the circumstances around this at this time to avoid prejudicing criminal proceedings.

Teenager convicted of murdering woman in Hackney

Source: United Kingdom London Metropolitan Police

A teenager has been convicted of the murder of Lianne Gordon in Hackney.

Lianne Gordon was sheltering behind her front door at home when she was shot and killed on 5 December 2023. While she might not have been the intended target, we know that her needless death was a consequence of a gang dispute.

A 17-year-old boy [A] appeared at the Old Bailey where, following trial, he was convicted on Wednesday, 30 October, of the murder of Lianne Gordon.

He was also found guilty of affray, possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life, possession of a bladed article and two counts of attempted murder, He had earlier pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply class A drugs.

He will be sentenced at the same court on Monday, 2 December.

The court heard that police were called at 18:28hrs on Tuesday, 5 December 2023, to reports of a shooting outside an address in Vine Close, E5. Officers and paramedics from the London Ambulance Service attended and found three people with gunshot wounds.

Despite the efforts of the emergency services to save her, Lianne Gordon, 42, sadly died at the scene.

Two other people, a 20-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy, were taken to hospital for treatment to injuries that were not life threatening.

The defendant was arrested at his home address on 8 December 2023.

Officers searched his home address and recovered Class A drugs, a machete, a ‘burner phone’ and drug paraphernalia.

A search of his IT equipment showed that, after he returned home from the shooting, he conducted 65 searches on news sites and social media relating to a ‘fatal shooting in Hackney’ and ‘Lianne Gordon’. He was charged with murder on 9 December 2023 and remanded in custody.

Footage seized by officers also showed the defendant approaching the two male victims as they stood outside Lianne Gordon’s home on Vine Close. He fired shots at them both as they attempted to hide behind parked cars.

It was at this point that Lianne, realising she was in danger, attempted to close the door, but the teenager was able to shoot her before she could do so. That single shot ended her life and a post-mortem examination confirmed that Lianne had died from a gunshot wound to the head.

Forensic officers recovered shell casings from the scene and ballistic scientific testing confirmed that the gun that was used in Lianne’s murder was also used in an incident on 2 December 2023 where shots were fired close to the entrance to Vine Close. On that occasion there were no reported injuries.

A glove was found in a search of the 17-year-old’s home address. This had his DNA and firearm residue on it, linking him to the fatal shooting.

Officers would later seize song lyrics, composed by the defendant in his cell, that were a self-congratulating outline of the murder and the shootings.

Detective Chief Inspector Joanna Yorke who led the investigation said: “The defendant was a known gang member with previous involvement in drugs and violence. Lianne Gordon was a mother of two who was shot dead for reasons we may never know or fathom.

“I am pleased that the murderer will face the consequences of his actions, but also that he will spend years of his life in a place where he can no longer pose a threat to the community.

“While nothing can bring Lianne back, I sincerely hope that today’s verdict brings some comfort to her loved ones.”

A/Ch Supt Brigid Beehag-Fisher, responsible for policing in Hackney and Tower Hamlets said: “I welcome today’s result which has brought justice to the family of Lianne Gordon. Whilst this verdict will not bring back a mother to her family, it does bring some closure to her family, friends and the local community who have been impacted by this tragic event.

“We are committed to tackling gun crime and serious violence across London and today’s verdict is testament to the hard work of the team taking violent and dangerous individuals off the streets and protecting our local communities.

“If you know someone who is carrying a weapon or involved with serious violence, I ask you to come forward to the police or via the independent charity Crimestoppers to prevent another tragedy like this from happening again.”

Man pleads guilty to multiple child sexual abuse offences following Met investigation

Source: United Kingdom London Metropolitan Police

A 28-year-old man has pleaded guilty to a string of devastating sexual offences against children after being confronted with overwhelming evidence uncovered by the Metropolitan Police.

Sam Phillips, 28 (07.04.96), of Hillcroome Road, Sutton, appeared at Harrow Crown Court on 30th October, where he admitted to 38 offences committed between December 2023 and February 2024.

His crimes, which targeted six vulnerable children, including over 20 counts of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, alongside further charges of sexual communication with a child and making indecent images of children

The Met investigation demonstrated the tireless dedication of the officers involved, whose swift actions and relentless pursuit of justice ensured that Phillips could not continue his reign of abuse. Their work uncovered the extent of his crimes, providing crucial evidence that led to his guilty plea and ensuring that he will face the full weight of the law.

Chief Superintendent Sara Leach, who leads policing in north-west London where the investigation was undertaken, said:

“Phillips is a predator of the worst kind, preying on innocent, vulnerable children for his own gratification. The scale of his offending is both appalling and heartbreaking, and no child should ever have to endure the trauma these young victims have suffered.

“I want to extend my deepest gratitude to the children and their families who had the courage to come forward. It is impossible to imagine the pain and fear they have experienced, but their bravery has allowed us to hold this dangerous individual to account.

“I am pleased Phillips has pleaded guilty, it is a testament to the strength and diligence of the case that Met officers have built. This outcome reflects our unwavering commitment to bringing sexual abusers to justice and ensuring that victims are heard and protected.”

The investigation began in late January 2024, when officers were contacted with serious concerns regarding the welfare of a child who had potentially been sexually exploited. Met detectives in north-west London immediately launched an investigation.

Through meticulous investigative work, officers uncovered that two additional children had also been groomed by Phillips. He had manipulated these children online, sending them money in exchange for inappropriate images of themselves. Detectives quickly traced the payments to Phillips’ account, and he was arrested on Monday, 11 March 2024. Initially charged with 11 offences involving three children, further analysis of his phone and financial records revealed more victims, leading to the total of 38 charges which were pleaded guilty to.

Acting Detective Sergeant Maria Giannakidou, the officer in the case, said:

“We commend the incredible bravery of the survivors who have come forward. It is through their courage that we are able to bring these deeply serious charges forward. Their strength in sharing their experiences is invaluable in holding those responsible to account, and we are committed to ensuring that victim voices are heard.”

Man jailed for 22 years after detectives linked him to violent robbery in Barnet

Source: United Kingdom London Metropolitan Police

A man has been sentenced to life imprisonment after a homicide investigation identified him as one of a gang of people who carried out a violent robbery in Barnet.

During a trial at the Old Bailey, a jury heard the group all travelled to 30-year-old Olsi Kuka’s home address in High Road, N20, shortly before 03:00hrs on 11 May 2022.

They were split into two Mercedes cars that parked outside before the group forced entry into the flat and attacked Olsi, stabbing him numerous times.

They then ransacked his flat, searching for drugs and money they believed Olsi had in his property.

After the men left the flat, police and paramedics were called. Despite the efforts of emergency services, Olsi sadly died a short time later.

A post-mortem examination concluded that the stab wounds had been caused by ‘at least’ two different knives. There were also four metal ball-bearings found in his scalp consistent with being shot by an air weapon.

A murder investigation, led by homicide detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command, used CCTV and mobile phone analysis to identify the five men involved in the attack.

Detectives discovered that one of the cars had travelled to the address four days before on a reconnaissance trip.

A police search dog also helped provide vital evidence to secure the conviction of a man for murder.

Dog handler PC Neil Dobson and a police dog called Monty searched managed to find £8,000 in cash hidden in the headboard of a bed that had not been found by the group.

Following a trial at the Old Bailey, Reuben Bernard, 19, (22.03.05) of Wootton, Northampton, was convicted of murder.

On Tuesday, 29 October, Bernard was sentenced to life imprisonment, to serve 22 years. He was also sentenced to seven years for conspiracy to rob and three years for causing grievous bodily harm; these sentences will be served concurrently.

Detective Chief Inspector Neil Rawlinson said: “The violence used in this attack was calculated, vicious and unrelenting.

“The five men that have been sentenced had planned to rob Olsi and were prepared to use any force necessary in order to get what they wanted.

“We continue to pursue lines of enquiry that may provide evidence as to the involvement of other people in this atrocious act of violence.”

Four other men have been sentenced for their involvement. They are:

Santana Thompson, 21 (04.02.03), of Aldriche Way was sentenced to 10 years in prison for Olsi’s manslaughter, 10 years for conspiracy to rob and one year for Section 20 wounding.

Daige Ramsey, 25 (30.11.98) of Winchester Road, E4 was convicted of the manslaughter of Olsi Kuka and jailed for 11 years. He was also sentenced to 10 years for conspiracy to rob and 12 months for section 20 wounding.

Ozan Seran 29 (05.06.95), of no fixed address pleaded guilty to manslaughter and was sentenced to 12-and-a-half years’ imprisonment. He was also sentenced to 11-and-a-half years for conspiracy to rob and nine months for section 20 wounding.

Bulent Bakir, 27 (05.01.97) of Old Road, Enfield, was convicted of conspiracy to rob and sentenced to six years.
