U.S. Forces Japan reaches C2 upgrade milestone

YOKOTA AIR BASE, Japan — U.S. Forces Japan reached a pivotal milestone in August as the first wave of rotational personnel arrived in support of the command’s transformation into a Joint Force Headquarters. This deployment marks the beginning of a phased effort to strengthen command and control capabilities and enhance joint operational readiness in the Indo-Pacific.

U.S. Forces Conduct Strike Supporting Somali National Army, Targeting al Shabaab

U.S. Africa Command conducted an airstrike against al Shabaab southwest of Bariire in central Somalia on August 17. 

The airstrike was in support of operations led by partner forces against terrorists in the area. 

AFRICOM, alongside the Federal Government of Somalia and Somali Armed Forces, continues to take action to degrade al Shabaab’s ability to plan and conduct attacks that threaten the U.S. Homeland, our forces, and our citizens abroad.

Specific details about units and assets will not be released to ensure continued operations security.

Saudi Arabia Assumes Command of Combined Maritime Forces’ Combined Task Force 150

MANAMA, Bahrain — The Royal Saudi Navy assumed command of Combined Task Force 150, a multinational maritime task force, from the Royal New Zealand Navy during a change of command ceremony, presided over by U.S. Navy Vice Adm. George Wikoff, commander of Combined Maritime Forces (CMF), onboard Naval Support Activity Bahrain, Aug. 19.

Royal New Zealand Navy Commodore Rodger Ward turned over command to Royal Saudi Navy Commodore Fahad S. Al Joaid.
