Windsor — West Hants District RCMP charge man operating unlicensed vape shop targeting youth

The West Hants District RCMP General Investigative Section has charged a man who was operating an unlicensed vape shop, targeting youth, in Windsor.

On August 31, 2023, as part of an ongoing investigation relating to an unlicensed vape shop targeting youth in the community of Windsor, the West Hants District RCMP General Investigative Section executed a search warrant at “The Half Pipe”, a store in the mall on Empire Ln. The owner, a 19-year-old Windsor man, was safely arrested in the store. During the search, officers located and, seized, nicotine and cannabis vaping products, a prohibited weapon, and cash.

Zachary Timothy McPhee, 19, has been charged with a number of offences including, Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited Weapon, Possession of Cannabis for the Purpose of Distribution, Distributing Vaping Products and Selling or Offering for Sale Flavoured Tobacco.

McPhee was released on conditions and will appear in Windsor Provincial Court on December 12, 2023.

The investigation remains ongoing and is being assisted by the West Hants District RCMP Street Crime Enforcement Unit and the Nova Scotia Alcohol, Gaming, Fuel and Tobacco Division.

Sussex — Two men arrested, stolen property recovered

A 42-year-old man and a 54-year-old man, both from Sussex, N.B., have been arrested and stolen property has been recovered in the community, N.B.

On August 29, 2023, at approximately 3 a.m., members of the Sussex RCMP detachment responded to a report of a break and enter in progress at a business on Main Street, in Sussex, N.B. When police arrived, they observed that two men had broken a window to gain entry to the business, and were fleeing the scene with a large number of stolen items.

Later that same day, following a subsequent investigation, a 42-year-old man and a 54-year-old man were arrested in Sussex and approximately $1750 worth of stolen property was recovered.

The 54-year-old man was released and 42-year-old man was remanded into custody as he was already serving a custodial community sentence. Both men are scheduled to appear in Saint John Provincial Court on December 6, 2023.

The New Brunswick RCMP is committed to intelligence led policing, and this investigation is the latest in a series of police actions aimed at reducing property crimes in the province. Moncton — 14-year-old youth charged with firearm offences

A 14-year-old youth has been charged in connection with firearm offences in Moncton, N.B.

On August 28, 2023, at approximately 8 p.m., members of the Codiac Regional RCMP responded to a report of an individual pointing a firearm at a group of people on Seaman Street and Mill Street in Moncton, N.B. When police arrived on scene, the individual attempted to leave the scene on foot and threw their backpack when they saw police arrive. Police quickly contained the area and were able to arrest them without incident. No one was injured during the event.

The RCMP Police Dog Services Unit was called to assist and located the firearm and the backpack that had been dropped during the incident.

On August 30, a 14-year-old youth, who cannot be identified as per the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was arrested for pointing a firearm, resisting arrest, and possession of a prohibited weapon. He was released pending a future court date.

The investigation is ongoing.

Regina — Presentation of the Third Guidon to the RCMP, September 8

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police will be presented with a new Guidon on September 8, 2023 at the RCMP Academy, Depot Division.

The Guidon is one of the most recognizable symbols of Royal Canadian Mounted Police’s participation in armed conflict alongside the military. It bears the Corps Operational Honours detailing the many campaigns members of the Mounted Police have fought and died in around the world.

The first RCMP Guidon was consecrated in 1935. It was retired in 1973 when a new Guidon was presented in Regina, Saskatchewan, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the RCMP by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, then Honorary Commissioner of the RCMP.

The new Guidon will include the addition of Afghanistan 2003-2014 to the honours, the change of Europe 1939-1945 to Second World War 1939-1945 and the return of the Provost Corps badge.

Steam Mill — Man wanted on province-wide arrest warrant

Kings District RCMP has obtained a warrant for the arrest of a man in connection an incident in Kings County in July, 2023.

Kyle Gordon Joseph Buffett, 19, of Halifax, has been charged with Possession of Property Obtained by Crime, Driving While Disqualified, Theft Under $5,000 and Breach of Probation.

Buffett is described as 5-foot-2, 170lbs, has brown hair and brown eyes.

Police have made several attempts to locate Buffett, and are requesting assistance from the public.

Corner Brook — RCMP-RNC Joint Forces Operation West conducts traffic stop, drug charges laid against occupants

As part of an ongoing investigation, RCMP-RNC Joint Forces Operation (JFO) West, with assistance from police officers with Deer Lake RCMP Detachment, conducted a traffic stop in Deer Lake on August 31, 2023, that resulted in the arrests of 50-year-old Gary Campbell of Irishtown-Summerside, 28-year-old Tanner Healey of Deer Lake and 27-year-old Bianca Williams of Corner Brook. All three are charged with drug-related offences.

A search of the vehicle and occupants resulted in the seizure of a quantity of crack cocaine, cash and other items consistent with drug-trafficking. Additionally, a large knife was located and seized.

All three are charged with Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking cocaine. Bianca Williams faces an additional charge of Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose and Failing to Comply with a condition of Release Order.

The three have been released from custody and are set to attend court at later dates.

The investigation is continuing.

Drug trafficking is a community issue with serious impacts on society. Police often rely on assistance from the public in combatting this type of crime. JFO West thanks the public for continuing to report suspected drug-trafficking activities.

JFO West, which includes dedicated police officers from both the RCMP and RNC, targets drug trafficking and organized crime on the west coast of the province.

Port Saunders — Reef’s Harbour man crashes vehicle, refuses to provide breath sample and assaults police officer

A 78-year-old man faces a number of criminal charges after crashing his vehicle on Route 430 near Reef’s Harbour on August 31, 2023.

At approximately 3:15 a.m. on Thursday, Port Saunders RCMP received a report of a crash. Officers patrolled the area and located a vehicle off the roadway in a ditch. The driver, who was the lone occupant of the vehicle, was located uninjured inside the car and showed signs of impairment. He failed to provide roadside breath samples, resisted arrest and assaulted one of the police officers.

The man was later released from custody and is set to appear in court at a later date to answer to charges of refusing to provide a breath sample, resisting arrest and assaulting a police officer.

Watson Lake — Watson Lake RCMP update on controlled explosive detonations

On Sunday, September 3, 2023, the Watson Lake RCMP were contacted by an individual who found a backpack containing explosives inside an abandoned van. The van was parked in an industrial lot, in a sparsely populated area. The Watson Lake RCMP quickly attended the scene, vacated the area, and set up a containment perimeter. The RCMP Explosives Disposal Unit attended and assisted in detonating the explosives in a controlled and safe manner.

While the Watson Lake RCMP are investigating the discovered items, we want to assure that there is no further public safety concern related to this incident at this time. This is a good reminder that if Yukoners come across suspicious items, they should contact their local police and not interact with the items.

Tidnish, Cumberland County — UPDATE: Missing boater located deceased by RCMP Underwater Recovery Team

The missing boater in Cumberland County has been located deceased by the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team.

On September 3, 2023, at approximately 10:45 a.m., Cumberland County District RCMP responded to a report of an overdue person in Northport, Cumberland County. RCMP officers learned that a 64-year-old man had gone out on his boat on September 2 and had not yet returned home.

A multi-agency search for the man, led by the Cumberland County District RCMP, was launched and involved resources from the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team, RCMP Air Services, multiple fire departments, Ground Search and Rescue teams and the Joint Rescue Co-Ordination Centre.

Sadly, the man was located deceased on September 4 by members of the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team.

Our thoughts are with the man’s family, friends and, his community, at this difficult time.
