Dauphin — Dauphin RCMP investigate shootings

Source: Royal Canadian Mounted Police

On September 25, 2023, at approximately 8:30 pm, Dauphin RCMP received a report of shots fired at a strip mall in the 1300 block of Main Street South in Dauphin, Manitoba. Officers attended and began an investigation. Nobody was determined to have been injured and no buildings were damaged. Police did locate shell casings in the parking lot.

Officers are looking for a blue car, perhaps a Chevrolet Cruise or Malibu, that was at the location at the time of the shots. There were three occupants in the vehicle, and it left the parking lot heading south on Main Street.

Only a couple of hours later, at approximately 10:45 pm, a single shot was fired at a residence on Main Street North. Adults and children were inside the home at the time of the incident. Nobody was physically injured.

When police arrived, it was noted that there were multiple bullet holes on the north side of the house. Only one shot was heard, and it appears the shot could have come from a shotgun containing buckshot ammunition.

At this time, these incidents are not believed to be related.

RCMP are looking for information on both of these incidents. If you have information, please call Dauphin RCMP at 204-622-5020, Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477, or secure tip online at www.manitobacrimestoppers.com.

On September 25, 2023, at 11:45 am, the SLO was on patrol when the two students were spotted in a back alley near the school. The two attempted to flee on foot, but were apprehended by officers. When searched, a 14-year-old male student was found to have two machetes hidden on his person as well as two pocket knives. The second student, a 15-year-old male, had two machetes and a loaded BB gun. Both males are from Portage.

Both youths were charged with Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose, Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Obstruct Peace Officer, and Resist Peace Officer.
