Swan River — Swan River RCMP respond to several calls involving the same suspect

On September 24, 2023, at approximately 11:50 pm, RCMP responded to an assault and break-in at a residence on 7 Avenue North, in Swan River.

A male known to the resident, broke into his home, assaulted and threatened him, and stole a cellphone and bicycle.

The victim, a 45-year-old male, sustained minor injuries in the assault.

Officers immediately attended but the suspect had fled. Patrols were made but the suspect was not located.

On September 25, 2023, at approximately 6:00 am, the suspect broke into the same residence a second time and began breaking items, including two televisions. He took a hammer from the home and fled the scene. A short time later he attended a business on Main Street in Swan River, armed with the hammer and began smashing two vehicles in the parking lot, and broke several windows of the business. An adult employee inside the business was injured by flying glass during the incident. She sustained minor injuries. There was an 8-year-old child inside at the time, but she was not physically injured.

The suspect was known to the employees.

At approximately 11:30 am, the suspect was located at residence in Swan River. He was arrested without incident.

Jeremy Gingras, 37, of Swan River has been charged with:

Uttering Threats x2
Mischief x3
Theft of Bicycle
Theft

He was remanded into custody.

Fort McMurray — Alberta RCMP officer involved shooting in Fort McMurray

On Sept. 27, 2023, at approximately 4 p.m., Wood Buffalo RCMP were dispatched to a firearms complaint in the area of Beaconwood Place in Fort McMurray. A male suspect approached the victim at her residence, discharging his firearm and striking her. The male suspect then fled in his vehicle and fired several more shots.

An altercation ensued between the male suspect and the police, resulting in shots being fired. The male suspect was struck and has succumbed to his injuries. The female victim was taken to a local hospital and has since been released. No officers were injured in the incident.

The RCMP believes in processes that seek the facts and it’s important that processes taken to assess the actions of all those involved, including the police, are fair, transparent, and defendable. This is why, as soon as we became aware of this incident, we immediately notified the Director of Law Enforcement and initiated our internal review process. The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) has been directed to investigate the circumstances surrounding the actions of the police during this investigation.

Independent of ASIRT’s investigation, the RCMP’s internal review process has been implemented to gather a full account of what took place during this incident. RCMP training, policy, police response, and the member’s duty status will be subject to review. The RCMP is, of course, fully cooperating with ASIRT. Wood Buffalo RCMP are asking residents to avoid the area, and remain in your residence if in the vicinity and refrain from posting police activity on social media.

Ottawa — Update on the reporting of frozen assets under the Special Economic Measures Act – Russia Regulations

The Minister of Foreign Affairs is responsible for the administration and enforcement of the Special Economic Measures Act (SEMA), as well as its regulations. Every person in Canada and all Canadians outside of Canada must disclose to the RCMP the existence of property in their possession or control that is believed to be owned or controlled by a designated person.

One of the RCMP’s roles under SEMA is to collect information on assets owned or controlled by a designated person.

Since February 24, 2022, the RCMP reports that a total approximate CAD equivalent of $135,844,725.87 of assets in Canada have been effectively frozen and a total approximate CAD equivalent of $305,684,144.96 in financial transactions have been blocked as a result of the prohibitions in the SEMA Russia Regulations..

Additionally, $78,838.00 CAD of assets in Canada have been frozen as a result of the SEMA Iran Regulations and there have been no reports of frozen assets under the SEMA Haiti Regulations.

The RCMP continues to receive new information disclosed in accordance with SEMA, including amendments to previous disclosures from reporting entities. As such, the figures provided by the RCMP are subject to change.

Ottawa — RCMP Musical Ride online horse auction starts Monday

Starting Monday, October 2, through Wednesday, October 11, the RCMP, in collaboration with Public Services and Procurement Canada’s GCSurplus, is hosting its online horse auction. This auction serves as an opportunity for enthusiasts to acquire surplus horses from the iconic Musical Ride and the esteemed RCMP Breeding Program.

The RCMP Breeding Farm produces some of the finest Hanoverian horses in Canada for the Musical Ride. And, while all of the horses are of excellent bloodlines, not all of them meet the Musical Ride’s specific criteria or requirements.

Six horses of various ages, skills, training levels and temperament are expected to be sold at this year’s auction, and bidding starts at $5,000.

Teslin — Yukon RCMP seek public assistance in identifying suspect of credit card theft and misuse

Yukon RCMP are asking for the public’s help in identifying a suspect who has reportedly been using stolen TTC credit cards. The suspect, in the associated images, was reported to have taken money out at the Yukon Motel in Teslin twice on August 14, 2023 and then twice at the TD Bank in Whitehorse on August 15, 2023.

Portage la Prairie — Portage la Prairie RCMP foot pursuit leads to arrest

On September 23, 2023, at approximately 12:50 am, a Portage la Prairie RCMP officer was on patrol on Oak Bay when she observed a female on the street acting erratically and in possession of a crowbar.

The officer exited her patrol vehicle and attempted to speak with the female who took off on foot. The suspect was pursued with additional officers attending to assist.

The foot pursuit led the suspect and officers to a property where she attempted to jump over a fence in an effort to evade capture.

As an officer attempted to physically gain control of the suspect, she turned and raised the crowbar towards him. A Conducted Energy Weapon (CEW) was deployed and the suspect was arrested and taken into police custody without further incident.

The 18-year-old female, from Portage la Prairie, was held in custody overnight and released the following morning for a court appearance scheduled for December 5, 2023, in Portage la Prairie, where she will face charges of Assaulting a Police Officer, Resisting Arrest and Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose.

No injuries were reported in this incident.

Portage la Prairie RCMP continue to investigate.

Gaetz Brook — Halifax District RCMP investigates serious crash

Halifax District RCMP is investigating a serious crash that occurred in Gaetz Brook.

Yesterday, at approximately 8:30 p.m., Halifax District RCMP, fire and EHS, responded to a report of a crash on Pine Hill Dr. RCMP officers learned that a Volkswagen GTI was negotiating a curve when it left the roadway.

The occupants of the vehicle, a 31-year-old Cole Harbour man and a 27-year-old Gaetz Brook man, both suffered serious injuries. One man was airlifted to hospital by LifeFlight, while the other was transported to hospital by ambulance.

The investigation is ongoing.

Clarenville — Lethbridge man charged with robbery and other offences after incident in parking lot of Random Square Mall

Thirty-one-year-old Jordan Holloway is charged with robbery and other criminal offences following an incident that occurred on September 26, 2023, on the parking lot of the Random Square Mall in Clarenville.

At approximately 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Clarenville RCMP received a report from a woman who alleged she was approached by an unknown man on the parking lot who asked her for an item in her hand. When she refused to give him the item, the man pulled out a knife. He departed the parking lot in a vehicle.

Immediate extensive patrols were conducted by Clarenville RCMP. The described vehicle and man, who police identified as Jordan Holloway, were located a short time later. Holloway was arrested for an attempted robbery and was held in police custody overnight.

In addition to a count of robbery, he is also charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and assault with a weapon. Holloway will appear in court this afternoon.

The investigation is continuing.

Moncton — Missing 33-year-old man

The Codiac Regional RCMP is asking for the public’s help to locate a missing 33-year-old man from Moncton, N.B.

Christopher Gauvin was last seen on September 22, 2023, at approximately 6 p.m., near Highfield Park in Moncton. He was reported missing to police on September 26, 2023. Police have followed up on several leads to try and locate him, but have so far been unsuccessful. Police and his family are concerned for his wellbeing.

Christopher Gauvin is described at being approximately five feet seven inches (170 centimetres) tall, and weighing approximately 170 pounds (77 kilograms). He has brown eyes and brown hair. He was last seen wearing an orange “Under Armour” jacket and blue jeans.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to contact the Codiac Regional RCMP at 506-857-2400.

Wabowden — Wabowden RCMP investigate fatal hit and run

On September 26, 2023, at approximately 3:35 am, Wabowden RCMP responded to a report of a possible hit and run, on Highway 6 near Hwy 373, approximately 10 km south of Wabowden.

A driver of a semi-truck had come across some debris on the roadway along with a possible body.

Officers attended immediately and located a deceased person in the ditch. It is believed the person was walking along the highway when he was struck and killed by a vehicle.

The deceased has been identified as a 34-year-old male originally from Manto Sipi Cree Nation.

Further investigation has determined that the 34-year-old male was travelling north on Highway 6, in a vehicle with four occupants, when he was dropped off on the side of the road, south of Wabowden, between 2:00 am- 3:00 am. It is believed the collision occurred shortly thereafter.
