Lafleche — Gravelbourg RCMP: male charged after break and enter

On January 1, 2025 at approximately 8:50 a.m., Gravelbourg RCMP received a report of a break-and-enter at a business in Lafleche, SK.

Officers immediately responded and observed a male exiting the business. The officers noted damage to the business’s door. The male was arrested without incident.

As a result of continued investigation, 51-year-old Christopher Bradley from Moose Jaw is charged with one count, break and enter, Section 348(1)(a), Criminal Code.

He is scheduled to appear in court in Assiniboia on February 13, 2025.

Weirdale — Nipawin/Smeaton RCMP: woman charged after more than 260 grams of cocaine seized

On December 20, 2024 at approximately 11:40 p.m., Nipawin RCMP received a report of a vehicle that was stuck in the ditch near Weirdale, SK.

Smeaton RCMP located the vehicle. Investigation determined the adult female driver left the scene on foot. Officers determined the woman was wanted on a warrant for driving while disqualified from Saskatoon Police Service and was subject to court-ordered curfew conditions.

They soon after located her sitting in a vehicle in Nipawin. She was arrested. During a subsequent search of the vehicle, officers located and seized 262 grams of cocaine, a sum of currency and various pre-packaged drugs.

As a result of investigation, 43-year-old Dana McCulloch from White Fox is charged with:

  • three counts, fail to comply with undertaking condition, Section 145(4)(a), Criminal Code
  • one count, possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose, Section 88(2), Criminal Code
  • one count, possession of property obtained by crime less than $5000, Section 354(1)(a), Criminal Code
  • one count, utter threats, Section 264.1(1), Criminal Code;
  • one count, possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine, Section 5(2), Controlled Drugs and Substances Act; and;
  • one count, possession for the purpose of trafficking fentanyl, Section 5(2), Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

She is scheduled to appear in court in Melfort on December 30, 2024.

The investigation continues.

Porters Lake — RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment responds to sudden death

RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment responded to a sudden death in Porters Lake after receiving report of a distressed man.

On January 2, at approximately 4 a.m., RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment received a complaint of a distressed man in Porters Lake who was believed to be armed. Through the investigation, officers determined the man was inside a residence in the 1300 block of West Porters Lake Rd.

RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment, with support from the RCMP Critical Incident Program, including the Crisis Negotiation Team, Emergency Response Team and Police Dog Services, attended the residence. Officers made several attempts to contact the man but he did not respond. No one else was inside the home at the time.

Officers obtained a warrant and entered the home where they located a thirty-year-old man deceased inside the residence. The man’s death is not believed to be suspicious.

Our thoughts are with the man’s loved ones at this difficult time.

West Porters Lake Rd. was closed for a period, and power was turned off in parts of Porters Lake to support the police response. The power was restored and the road was opened as soon as possible. The RCMP would like to thank residents for their cooperation.

The investigation is ongoing and is being led by RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment with assistance of Forensic Identification Services.

Saint-Quentin — RCMP seeking public’s help following theft of snow blower

The Saint-Quentin RCMP is asking for the public’s help following a theft in Saint-Quentin, N.B.

On December 25, 2024, at approximately 7 a.m., two individuals broke into a storage facility at a school on Rue Monseigneur Martin Est, in Saint-Quentin, and stole a snow blower.

Both individuals were wearing black winter clothes, and one of the individuals was wearing white gloves during the theft. They were also possibly in possession of a white sports utility vehicle (SUV) and a black pickup truck at the time of the theft.

The RCMP are releasing video surveillance images of the individuals and are hoping that, despite the quality, information from the public may help further the investigation.

A description of the snow blower is not available at this time.

Dalhousie — RCMP seeking public’s help in connection with theft

The Campbellton RCMP is asking for the public’s help following a theft in Dalhousie, N.B.

The theft occurred between September and December 2024, at a marina on Rock Island Lane, in Dalhousie, when an individual or individuals cut and stole a significant amount of electrical wire from the docks located on the property.

A description of the individual or individuals is not available at this time.

Nain — Arrest warrant issued for Sonny Merkuratsuk (UPDATED)

Update: Nain RCMP advises that wanted man, Sonny Merkuratsuk, was arrested.

An arrest warrant has been issued for 37-year-old Sonny Merkuratsuk who is actively evading police.

Merkuratsuk is wanted by Nain RCMP in relation to the following charges:

  • Sexual Assault
  • Break and enter
  • Uttering threats
  • Failure to comply with a release order

Springdale — Springdale RCMP investigating collision involving snowmobile

Springdale RCMP is investigating a collision that occurred between a snowmobile and an SUV on the Trans Canada Highway (TCH) near Southbrook on December 28, 2024.

Around 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, police received a report of the collision that occurred on the TCH, east of West Pond Road. A snowmobile towing a sled was crossing the highway to access the other side of the local snowmobile trail and collided with an SUV. The 81-year-old male operating the snowmobile and the female SUV driver were both transported to the hospital in Springdale. The man was later transported to the hospital in Grand Falls-Windsor with serious but non-life-threatening injuries and is recovering. The woman sustained non-serious injuries.

The investigation is ongoing.

Stratford — 21 Seniors Safely Evacuated from Stratford Fire

January 3, 2025, Stratford – On January 3 at 2:30 a.m. Emergency crews responded to a report of a fire at a seniors’ apartment complex on St. John Avenue in Stratford. All 21 residents were evacuated to the Stratford Emergency Services Building without incident. No one was injured in this incident but one resident went to hospital for other medical concerns. Red Cross officials attended to assist the residents. The Provincial Fire Marshal did attend and the fire is not believed to be suspicious at this time. Fire damages were contained to a small section of the building with smoke affecting larger areas.

Responding to this fire was the Cross Roads Fire Department with mutual aid from the Charlottetown Fire Department, Island EMS, Red Cross, the Provincial Fire Marshal and Stratford RCMP.

Whitehorse — Update to Whitehorse homicide investigation

On January 1, 2025 Whitehorse RCMP and emergency medical services responded to a residence where a 17-year-old male, had been grievously injured and subsequently passed away from his injuries. The male suspect was identified and arrested.

Jakhi Samuel Rudyk, a 19-year-old male from Whitehorse, has been charged with murder in the 2nd Degree and unauthorized possession of a firearm. Mr. Rudyk’s first appearance in court was today and his next court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday, January 7 at 1:30 pm.

Yukon RCMP offer their sincere condolences to the family of the deceased.

Portage la Prairie — Portage la Prairie RCMP make arrests after two police vehicles rammed

On December 24, 2024, at 2:15 pm, a Portage la Prairie RCMP officer, who was on patrol, initiated a traffic stop with a vehicle on 8th Street NW and 6th Avenue NW. The officer activated his emergency lights but the vehicle refused to stop. Due to public safety concerns, a pursuit was not initiated.

Police later located the vehicle travelling on Road 70 North, heading towards Provincial Road 240, where officers were able to position a police vehicle in an attempt to deploy a spike belt. A police vehicle was travelling behind the suspect vehicle as well.

The suspect vehicle stopped before hitting the spike belt and reversed into the police vehicle travelling behind it. The suspect then drove over the spike belt and turned south onto Provincial Road 240 where it drove head-on into another arriving police vehicle.

Both vehicles caught fire after impact. Officers exited their vehicles and were able to safely remove the two female occupants who were subsequently placed under arrest.

A 30-year old female, from Portage la Prairie, faces charges of Flight from Police and Resist/Obstruct a Police Officer. She was released on an Undertaking to appear in court at a later date.

Michelle WHITFORD, 32, of Portage la Prairie, was remanded into custody on charges including Assault Police Officer with a Weapon, Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance, Theft of a Motor Vehicle, Flight from Police and Resist Arrest.

The two suspects and one officer were taken to local hospital where they were treated and released.

Portage la Prairie RCMP continue to investigate.
