Pennfield — Missing 79-year-old woman

The St. George RCMP is asking for the public’s help to locate a missing 79-year-old woman from Pennfield, N.B.

Barbara Billington was last seen on September 1, 2023, at approximately 1:30 p.m. at a residence on McKay Loop Road in Pennfield. She was reported missing to police the same day. Police have followed up on several leads to try and locate her, but have so far been unsuccessful. Police and her family are concerned for her wellbeing as she has a medical condition that could make her appear confused.

Barbara Billington is described as being approximately five feet (152 centimetres) tall, and weighing approximately 90 pounds (41 kilograms). She wears glasses, and has white hair. She was last seen wearing a teal shirt, black pants, and mismatched colourful shoes.

Residents in the Pennfield area can expect an increased police presence as the St. George RCMP, RCMP specialized policing services and local ground search and rescue teams search for Barbara Billington.

Anyone with information on her whereabouts is asked to contact the St. George RCMP at 506-755-1130.

Saint-Quentin — Have you seen this stolen ATV?

The Saint-Quentin RCMP is asking for the public’s help to locate a stolen all-terrain vehicle (ATV) from the community.

The theft is believed to have occurred sometime between the evening of August 29, and the evening of August 31, 2023, from a seasonal residence on Boschert Road in Saint-Quentin.

The ATV is described as a red 1992 Honda TRX 300FW with New Brunswick licence plate XH0 087, and vehicle identification number 478TE1528NA404169.

Cross Lake — Cross Lake RCMP vehicle stop leads to seizure of a large amount of cash

On August 31, 2023, as a result of an ongoing investigation into the trafficking of drugs in the community, officers from the Cross Lake RCMP Detachment conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle located on Settee Drive.

Officers approached the vehicle and placed one of the occupants under arrest for the possession of a controlled substance.

While searching the accused, police located a quantity of substance believed to be cocaine. A search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of a duffel bag, containing a large quantity of cash, and a loaded handgun from under the seat.

The 27-year-old female, from Winnipeg, was taken into police custody where she will be remanded into custody on drug and firearms related charges.

A 30-year-old male, from Cross Lake, was also arrested on scene for assaulting a police officer, uttering threats and obstruction of justice for interfering with officers during the investigation.

“The dependence on drugs in this community, and crimes which are committed as a result of the drug trade, can only be solved by working together”, states Staff Sergeant Jon Greer, Detachment Commander of Cross Lake RCMP. “These arrests and seizure of drugs, drug money and a loaded handgun, is just one example of how the collaboration between police and the citizens of Pimicikamak Cree Nation and Cross Lake is making a difference in the safety of the community and of the public”.

St. John’s — Deer Lake man charged with online child exploitation offences by RCMP-RNC IICE Team

Following a lengthy investigation conducted by the RCMP-RNC Integrated Internet Child Exploitation (IICE) Team, 43-year-old Andrew Rogers of Deer Lake was arrested on August 30, 2023, and is charged with online child exploitation offences.

In February of 2023, IICE executed a search warrant at a Deer Lake home in relation to a report of online child exploitation activity. Electronics were seized and subsequently analyzed.

The results of the forensic analysis, as well as other evidence collected, led to Roger’s arrest earlier this week. In accordance with arrest and release procedures, Rogers was released on conditions designed to protect the general public. He is scheduled to appear in Provincial Court in Corner Brook on October 24, 2023, to answer to the following criminal charges:

  • Transmitting Child Pornography – two counts
  • Possession of Child Pornography – two counts

Child pornography cases require complex forensic examination of seized electronics, followed by additional investigation actions. Consequently, criminal charges in these cases are often laid up to 9-12 months after the execution of a search warrant.

Shamattawa — Update-Shamattawa RCMP search for missing male

On August 31, 2023, at approximately 2:15 pm, community members located the body of missing person, Abraham Beardy, in the river.

The cause of death has yet to be determined and an autopsy will be conducted.

Shamattawa RCMP, along with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, continue to investigate.


On August 27, 2023, Shamattawa RCMP received a report of a missing male from the community.

Abraham Beardy, 43, was last seen the evening of August 25, when he was canoeing with an adult female on the Gods River and the canoe tipped. The adult female made it to shore, but it is unknown if Abraham did.

Abraham Beardy is 5’11”, 185 lbs with brown hair and hazel eyes.

RCMP along with community members continue to search the area on foot, by water and by air, but have yet to locate Abraham Beardy.

Harbour Grace — Victoria man attends court after driving vehicle into residential shed and setting house on fire

Harbour Grace RCMP responded to an urgent call at a home in Victoria yesterday that resulted in the arrest of 75-year-old John Lomond.

Shortly after 1:00 p.m. yesterday, police received a report of a residential disturbance. While responding, officers received further information indicating that a vehicle had crashed into a shed on the residential property and that the home had been set on fire.

Lomond was arrested on the property without incident. Nearby residents were evacuated as a precaution while fire fighters battled the blaze. Occupants of the home were safely removed without injury.

Lomond attends court today and is charged with the following criminal offences:

  • Arson
  • Assault with a weapon
  • Uttering threats

A fire scene investigator was engaged and the investigation is continuing.

Fredericton — 53-year-old man sentenced to five years in prison after pleading guilty to charges, including making child pornography

A 53-year-old man from Fredericton, N.B., has been sentenced to five years in prison after pleading guilty to a number of charges, including making child pornography.

The investigation, led by the New Brunswick RCMP’s Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit, began in October 2022, following information received from the RCMP’s National Child Exploitation Crime Centre (NCECC).

On October 19, 2022, members of the RCMP ICE Unit, along with members of the Blackville RCMP and the RCMP’s Digital Forensic Services, executed a search warrant at a residence in the Fredericton area, as part of the investigation. A 53-year-old man from the community was arrested at the scene, and police seized several electronic devices. The man was later released pending a future court appearance.

On January 13, 2023, George Patrick Derrick Smith appeared in Fredericton Provincial Court and was charged with:

  • two counts of sexual interference
  • possession of child pornography
  • sexual assault
  • making child pornography

On August 24, George Patrick Derrick Smith pled guilty to sexual interference, making child pornography, and possession of child pornography. He was subsequently sentenced to five years in prison. Upon his release, he will be ordered to register with the National Sex Offender Registry for 20 years and is subject to a DNA order.

The New Brunswick RCMP’s Internet Child Exploitation Unit includes members from the Saint John Police Force and the Kennebecasis Regional Police Force. The RCMP’s Digital Forensic Services Unit and members from the Northeast District RCMP assisted with the investigation.

Middle Stewiacke — Colchester County District RCMP investigating fatal crash

Colchester County District RCMP is investigating a fatal collision that occurred on Hwy. 289 in Middle Stewiacke.

On August 31, 2023, at approximately 9:05 p.m., Colchester County District RCMP, fire and EHS, responded to a report of a single vehicle crash on Hwy. 289 in Middle Stewiacke. RCMP officers learned that a motor home had been travelling on Hwy. 289 when it left the road and came to rest in a ditch.

The driver, and lone occupant, of the motor home, a 58-year-old Lower Sackville man, was transported to hospital by ambulance, but sadly, he was later pronounced deceased.

A collision reconstructionist attended the scene and the investigation is ongoing.

Hwy. 289 was closed for several hours but has since reopened.

Our thoughts are with the victim’s family at this difficult time.

Bonavista — Bonavista RCMP investigates 8 vehicle break-ins over two days; seeks surveillance footage of affected areas

Bonavista RCMP is investigating eight separate break and enters into vehicles in residential areas over the span of two nights.

Two vehicle break and enters were reported to Bonavista RCMP as having occurred sometime overnight on the evening of August 29. Six additional vehicle break and enters were reported as having occurred overnight on August 31, 2023.

The areas where vehicles were broken into are:

  • Groves Lane
  • Lench Lane
  • Sebastian Drive
  • Faulkner’s Hill
  • Windlass Drive
  • Benny’s Road

Police are asking anyone in these areas with video surveillance to please review the footage from 6:00 p.m. on August 29, 2023 up to 9:00 a.m. on August 31, 2023. Eel Ground First Nation — 33-year-old man arrested following drug seizure

A 33-year-old man has been arrested following a drug seizure on Eel Ground First Nation, N.B.

On August 28, 2023, at approximately 4:20 a.m., members of the Blackville RCMP detachment executed a search warrant at a residence on McKay Brook Road as part of an ongoing investigation. During the search, police seized quantities of what is believed to be methamphetamine, drug trafficking paraphernalia, and electronics.

A 33-year-old man was arrested at the scene, and was later released pending a future court appearance.

The investigation is ongoing.
