Ludlow — 33-year-old man charged following theft, failure to stop for police

RCMP quickly arrested two individuals, and charges have been laid against a 33-year-old man following a theft and failure to stop for police in Ludlow, N.B.

On December 7, 2024, at approximately 8:34 a.m., members of the Doaktown RCMP detachment responded to a report of a theft at a business on Route 8, in Boiestown, N.B.

When police arrived in the area, they located the suspect vehicle, occupied by two individuals. The suspect vehicle fled the area on Taxis River Road upon police activating their emergency equipment.

A short time later, the suspect vehicle was located travelling Northbound on Porter Cove Road. A member of the Doaktown RCMP successfully deployed a tire deflation device in Porter Cove, and police were able to immobilize the vehicle on Hwy 8 in Ludlow, after the suspect vehicle struck the police cruiser. No injuries were sustained during the incident.

The driver, a 33-year-old man from Boiestown, N.B., was arrested after attempting to flee the area on foot, and was taken into police custody. The passenger, a 38-year-old woman from Oromocto, N.B., was also arrested at the scene, and later released.

On December 10, 2024, 33-year-old Christian Scott Norrad appeared in Miramichi Provincial Court and was charged with:

  • Assault peace officer with a weapon
  • Flight from peace officer
  • Dangerous operation of motor vehicle
  • Mischief
  • Resist arrest
  • Theft

He was released on conditions, and is schedule to reappear in Miramichi Provincial Court on December 30, 2024.

The New Brunswick RCMP’s Air Services assisted with the investigation.

The investigation is ongoing.

Mavillette — RCMP charge man with impaired driving causing death after fatal collision in Mavillette

Meteghan RCMP Detachment has charged a man with impaired driving offences, including two counts of Impaired Driving Causing Death, after investigating a fatal collision in Mavillette.

On October 6, at approximately 6:30 p.m., Meteghan RCMP, fire services, and EHS responded to a report of a two-vehicle collision on Hwy. 1. Officers learned that a Pontiac G5 veered out of its lane and collided with a Hyundai Kona travelling in the opposite direction.

One of the passengers in the Hyundai, a 77-year-old Saint Alphonse woman, was pronounced deceased on scene. The driver and another passenger in the Kona were transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries; the passenger later died in hospital. Another passenger suffered serious injuries.

At the time of the collision, the driver of the Pontiac showed signs of impairment by alcohol. He was arrested and transported to a local hospital where blood samples were obtained for analysis.

On December 9, Meteghan RCMP arrested 34-year-old Vincent Alphonse Comeau of Saint Alphonse. He faces the following charges:

  • Impaired Driving Causing Death (two counts)
  • Dangerous Driving Causing Death (two counts)
  • Impaired Driving Causing Bodily Harm
  • Dangerous Driving Causing Bodily Harm
  • Impaired Driving over .80
  • Impaired Driving

Comeau was released by the courts on conditions and will appear in Yarmouth Provincial Court on February 18.

Happy Valley-Goose Bay — Toys for the North to provide toys and hockey gear to Labrador youth

The 2024 Toys for the North campaign kicked off with the arrival Santa and an aircraft full of gifts this past Friday.

On December 6th, 2024, Santa touched down in Happy Valley-Goose Bay to deliver his annual shipment of toys. In addition to the toys, Santa brought plenty of hockey gear for players and goalies. The toys and hockey equipment will be distributed amongst coastal communities in Labrador.

RCMP NL along with RCMP Air Services and our partners at the Canadian Toy Association, Thomson Terminals Limited, the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF), 5 Wing Goose Bay, and Woodward Aviation worked together to organize this event. The toys and hockey gear will be sorted by RCMP NL and transported for distribution to children ages 0-11 living in northern coastal communities.

RCMP NL’s Labrador District has been involved with Toys for the North since 2012. On average, each year, 4,000 children receive a toy that is delivered by RCMP employees across the country. We are pleased to partner in this wonderful initiative, creating happy memories for children living in Canada’s remote northern regions.

Kings County — RCMP charge 29-year-old Albion Cross man with attempted murder.

RCMP charge 29-year-old Albion Cross man with attempted murder.

Kings District RCMP with the assistance of RCMP Major Crime Unit have laid attempted murder charges on 25-year-old Owen Daniel MacDonald after a person known to him was seriously assaulted.

RCMP learned of an incident that occurred on November 28th that sent the assaulted person to hospital. After several days of investigation, police made an arrest and have charged MacDonald with the following charges:

  1. Attempted murder
  2. Aggravated assault
  3. Assault causing bodily harm
  4. Dangerous driving causing bodily harm
  5. Dangerous driving

He was held in custody and his next court appearance will be today in Georgetown. Police are not providing any further details at this time as this investigation may be subject to a publication ban.

RM of North Norfolk — Portage la Prairie RCMP respond to fatal structure fire

On December 10, 2024, at 7:40 pm, Portage la Prairie RCMP received a report of a structure fire at a residence located off of Provincial Road 352, west of Highway 34, in the RM of North Norfolk.

RCMP, along with the local fire department, attended the scene.

Once the fire was brought under control and extinguished, firefighters entered the home and located the remains of a deceased individual within the residence.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Portage la Prairie RCMP, along with the Office of the Fire Commissioner, continue to investigate.

Moncton  — RCMP seeking public’s help following aggravated assault

The Codiac Regional RCMP is seeking the public’s help following an aggravated assault in Moncton, N.B.

On November 30, 2024, at approximately 3 p.m., members of the Codiac Regional RCMP were made aware of an assault that occurred at approximately 3 a.m. on the same day, in front of a business at the intersection of Main Street and Robinson Court, in Moncton.

Following the assault, the victim, a 50-year-old man, was treated at hospital with what were believed to be significant, non-life-threatening injuries. He has since been released from hospital.

Police are now seeking the public’s help in hopes of identifying two individuals responsible for the assault. A description of the suspects is not available at this time.

Anyone who lives, works or happened to be in the area, has security camera or dash camera footage from the time of the incident, or who may have witnessed the assault is asked to contact the Codiac Regional RCMP at 506-857-2400. North Preston — UPDATE: Police asking for public’s assistance to advance homicide investigation

The RCMP/HRP Integrated Criminal Investigation Division (CID) is asking for the public’s assistance in relation to a homicide investigation in North Preston.

On May 8, at approximately 11:48 p.m., RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment received a report that a man had been shot near the 1100 block of Downey Rd. Upon arrival at the scene, officers located a 36-year-old with gunshot wounds.

Tyrell Beals, of Westphal, was later pronounced deceased at the hospital.

“Mr. Beals’ homicide remains unsolved and we need information from the public to advance the investigation,” says Cpl. Ryan McCarron of CID. “If you were in the area of Downey Rd. on May 8, or have any details about the events leading up to or after the shooting, please reach out to us; your voice could help bring closure to his grieving family.”

The ongoing investigation is led by Homicide Investigations in the Special Enforcement Section of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division with assistance from the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service, RCMP Forensic Identification Services, and RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment.

Lantz — Man wanted on arrest warrant

East Hants District RCMP is seeking information on the whereabouts of a man currently wanted on an arrest warrant.

Daniel Gibson, 27, of Truro, is wanted on a province-wide arrest warrant for multiple offences including Assault, Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance, Flight from Peace Officer, and Theft.

Gibson is described as 5-foot-6, 180 lbs and has short blond hair and blond facial hair.

Police have made several attempts to locate Gibson, and are requesting assistance from the public.

Gander — Impaired driver in 2019 crash claims lives of two individuals and seriously injures two others, sentenced by Gander Provincial Court

Convicted of two counts of impaired operation causing death and two counts of impaired operation causing bodily harm in relation to a fatal collision that occurred on the Trans-Canada Highway on July 7, 2019, 26-year-old Nicholas Villeneuve of Gander was sentenced by Gander Provincial Court yesterday afternoon.

Villeneuve received a concurrent sentence of a total of six years incarceration and a seven-year driving prohibition, which commenced upon his sentencing yesterday.

Russell — Russell RCMP respond to single vehicle collision

On December 10, 2024, at approximately 10:30 am, Russell RCMP responded to a single vehicle collision on Highway 41, just inside the town of St. Lazare.

When officers arrived on scene, they found a vehicle at the bottom of a steep hill, on the south side of town, that had left the road and collided with a tree.

Firefighters and EMS on scene assisted in removing the lone female driver from the vehicle, who was then transported to hospital with serious injuries.

A 72-year-old female from Birtle, later succumbed to her injuries in hospital.

Road conditions were icy at the time of the incident.

Russell RCMP continue to investigate.
