Bonavista — Bonavista RCMP investigates break, enter and theft at DFO, seeks public’s assistance

Bonavista RCMP is investigating a break, enter and theft of an enclosed trailer and two snowmobiles at a Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) compound on Route 230, near English Harbour.

On December 17, 2024, police received the report of the crime which occurred shortly before midnight on December 16. Surveillance footage confirmed that two individuals, both wearing reflective coats, arrived at the scene at approximately 11:50 p.m. in a pickup truck. Suspects forced entry inside the gated area, connected the enclosed trailer to the truck and departed with the trailer, which contained two snowmobiles, in tow. One snowmobile is a 2009 yellow and grey Tundra LT Ski-Doo with licence plate SFH 710. The other is a 2018 black and grey Polaris Indy LXT with licence plate SCE 890.

Bonavista RCMP is requesting the public’s assistance in identifying the suspects. The suspect vehicle is described as being a white 4-door Chevrolet Silverado that appeared to be in good condition. Images of the suspects and the truck used in the crime, as well as the stolen trailer and snowmobiles, are attached.

The investigation is continuing.

Harbour Grace — Harbour Grace RCMP arrests second individual involved in NF Power theft of copper wire in Old Perlican

With the assistance of the public, the second individual responsible for the break, enter and theft from NF Power communications site in Old Perlican, 42-year-old David Joseph Traverse of Heart’s Delight, was arrested by Harbour Grace RCMP.

On December 16, 2024, two suspects were caught on surveillance stealing copper wire from the NF Power communications site in Old Perlican. One suspect, 40-year-old Hope Cox, was arrested departing the scene in a vehicle. The other suspect, later identified as Traverse, fled the scene on foot.

As part of the ongoing investigation, Traverse was arrested without incident on December 18, 2024. He is charged with the following criminal offences:

  • Break and enter
  • Theft over $5000.00
  • Michief over $5000.00, damage to property
  • Possession of break in instruments/tools
  • Wearing a disguise
  • Failure to comply with a condition of a release order

Traverse appeared in court in Harbour Grace yesterday and was held in custody overnight. He will appear in court today.

Powerview-Pine Falls — Powerview RCMP traffic stops lead to weapons arrests

On December 14, 2024, at approximately 1:15 am, Powerview RCMP received a weapons complaint in the community of Manigotagan.

While patrolling the area, officers conducted a traffic stop and recognized the male driver of the vehicle as a person with an outstanding warrant.

As the officer was placing the driver under arrest, another traffic stop was being conducted nearby with assistance from Hollow Water First Nation Safety Officers.

Two males from the second vehicle were arrested and when searching the vehicle, officers located a loaded firearm.

RCMP arrested Cole Arthurson, 28, from Selkirk, Kyle Clarke, 34, from Winnipeg, and Keanu Simard, 28 from Hollow Water. All three were charged with a number of firearm-related offences.

On December 16, 2024, at approximately 12:00 am, Powerview RCMP conducted a traffic stop while on patrol in the community, stopping a vehicle with three occupants on Cedar Street.

As the officer approached the vehicle, the male driver informed police he did not have a valid license. After speaking with the other male occupants in the vehicle – officers noticed what appeared to be a sawed-off shotgun in plain view in the back.

All three occupants were arrested without incident at the scene.

Clements Swampy, 29, Matthew Boyd, 32, both of Fort Alexander, and Brennon Beaulieu (22) from Winnipeg were all charged with numerous firearm-related offences.

The investigations continue.

Berwick — Valley Integrated Street Crime Enforcement Unit charges four people with firearm and drug offences

The Valley Integrated Street Crime Enforcement Unit (VISCEU) has charged four people with drug offences after a search warrant was executed at a home in South Berwick.

On December 6, VISCEU with the assistance of Kings District RCMP, Kentville Police and the Criminal Intelligence Service Nova Scotia (CISNS) executed a search warrant at a home on Buchanan Rd., as part of an ongoing drug trafficking investigation.

At the home, police safely arrested four people then located and seized a quantity of cocaine, methamphetamine, scales, cellphones, firearms, cash and stolen property.

Scott Graham, 51, of Berwick; Jessie Jones, 35, of Waterville; and Theresa Atwell, 59, and Josh Jackson, 33, both from Cambridge, have been charged with:

  • Unauthorized Possession of Firearm (2 counts)
  • Possession of Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized (2 counts)
  • Careless Use of Firearm (2 counts)
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime (over $5,000)
  • Possession for Purpose of Trafficking (3 counts)

Atwell was also charged with Possession Contrary to Order, and Jackson was also charged with Failure to Comply with Probation Order.

All four were released by the Court on conditions and are scheduled to appear in Kentville Provincial Court on February 11 at 9:30 a.m.

Elmsdale — Crash leads to arrest in connection to stolen vehicle

December 20, 2024, Elmsdale PEI – A single-vehicle crash in Elmsdale yesterday afternoon led to the arrest of a 22-year-old man in connection to a stolen vehicle.

Yesterday at 1:00 p.m., West Prince RCMP responded to a report of a single-vehicle crash involving a car and a telephone pole in Elmsdale. Police learned that the vehicle had been stolen, and the lone occupant fled on foot. Police located him a short distance away. He was treated for minor injuries and arrested. He was released on conditions and will appear in Summerside Provincial Court on February 5th at 9:30 to answer to charges in connection to this incident.

Harbour Grace — Prolific offender sentenced for charges laid by Harbour Grace RCMP

Thirty-three-year-old Justin Joseph Melvin King of Victoria was sentenced in Provincial Court in Harbour Grace earlier this week for charges laid by Harbour Grace RCMP.

As part of a plea agreement, King was sentenced on December 16, 2024, for a number of offences that occurred in February, 2023. His convictions include flight from police, dangerous operation and resisting arrest. He received a nine-month Conditional Sentence Order, a 24-month Probation Order, a fine of $8930.00 and a driving prohibition of 75 months.

Lavillette — RCMP seeking public’s help following break, enter and theft

The Neguac RCMP is seeking the public’s assistance in connection with a break, enter and theft in Lavillette, N.B.

The theft is believed to have occurred on December 17, 2024, between 4 a.m. and 5 a.m., at business on Route 450 in Lavillette.

Two individuals forcibly gained entry to the business through a window and stole a number of items, including an automatic teller machine (ATM), money, cigarettes, cigars, sunglasses, lottery tickets, and a jacket. The business was unoccupied at the time of the incident.

Police are now releasing surveillance footage photos of the two individuals, in hopes that someone may recognize them. Both suspects were wearing dark clothing, a mask, and gloves.

Anyone who lives in the area and witnessed suspicious activity, who has surveillance footage from the time of the incident, or who has information that could help further the investigation is asked to contact the Neguac RCMP at 506-776-3000. Little Black Bear First Nation — Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes and File Hills Police Service investigating suspicious death on Little Black Bear First Nation

On December 18, 2024 at approximately 10:30 a.m., File Hills Police Service received a report of an injured individual at a residence on Little Black Bear First Nation.

File Hills Police Service responded and located an injured adult male, who was declared deceased by EMS at the scene. He has been identified as 20-year-old Devin Bellegarde from Little Black Bear First Nation. His family has been notified.

Initial investigation by File Hills Police Service determined the male’s death was suspicious in nature. An adult female was arrested at the scene and Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes was engaged to continue the investigation.

As a result of continued investigation, 20-year-old Danielle Panipekeesick from Little Black Bear First Nation is charged with one count, manslaughter, Section 236(b), Criminal Code.

Danielle Panipekeesick appeared in Fort Qu’Appelle Provincial Court on December 19, 2024.

North Battleford — Update #2: Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes investigating homicide in North Battleford

As a result of continued investigation, on December 12, 2024, Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes located and arrested a male youth in Regina, SK.

A 17-year-old male youth from Saskatoon, SK is charged with:

  • one count, manslaughter, Section 236(a), Criminal Code; and
  • one count, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, Section 88, Criminal Code.

The male youth’s charges were laid in relation to the February 2 death of Jordan Wright from North Battleford. We are unable to identify the male youth as per the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

The male youth appeared in Regina Provincial Court on December 13, 2024.

Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes continue to investigate. Investigators ask anyone with information about Jordan Wright’s death to report it to police immediately by dialling 310-RCMP. Update: Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes investigating homicide in North Battleford

Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes continued the investigation into the death of 32-year-old Jordan Wright from North Battleford.

As a result of continued investigation, officers arrested an adult male at the Saskatoon Provincial Corrections Centre on December 7.

26-year-old Xavier Lonesinger from North Battleford is charged with one count, first degree murder, Section 235, Criminal Code.

He is scheduled to appear in North Battleford Provincial Court on December 9, 2024 (Information # 90196219).

Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes investigating homicide in North Battleford

On February 2, 2024 at approximately 5:56 p.m., North Battleford RCMP received a report of a shooting at a residence on 93rd Street in North Battleford.

Officers immediately responded and located a 32-year-old injured male, who was later pronounced deceased at the scene by EMS.

Investigation has determined two males entered the house armed with weapons and an altercation took place. A firearm was discharged and the 32-year-old male was injured, he later died of his injuries. The suspects then fled on foot. The North Battleford RCMP searched the area with the assistance of North Battleford Police Dog Services.

Initial investigation has determined that this incident is not believed to be random in nature.

Saskatchewan Major Crimes is investigating the death as a homicide and is releasing the name of the victim to help further the investigation. He is being identified as 32-year-old Jordan Wright of North Battleford. His family has been notified and victim services made available to them.

Police are asking anyone who may have information that would help the investigation call 310-RCMP or 911 in an emergency. Information can also be submitted anonymously by contacting Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or www.saskcrimestoppers.com.

Residents will notice an increased police presence over the next few days as officers continue to investigate.
