Officers from the Met’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit [SCIU] are appealing for witnesses following a fatal collision in Greenwich.

Police were called at approximately 14:55hrs on Thursday, 15 February to reports of a road traffic collision involving a motorcycle and a white HGV in John Wilson Street, SE18.

Officers and London Ambulance Service attended. The rider of the motorcycle, a 55-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the HGV stopped at the scene and is assisting police with their enquiries.

There have been no arrests.

The deceased male’s next of kin has been informed and a post mortem will be scheduled in due course. We await formal identification.

Detective Constable Steve Cannings investigating said: “This collision took place at a very busy section of the South Circular approaching Woolwich Ferry. There will have been a number of witnesses who saw the collision take place and I urge them to come forward to help us piece together the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.”
