Two burglars have been jailed after admitting a string of offences that were carried out in a single day.

Jeffrey Major – 44 (04.06.73) of no fixed abode and David Grintuch – 33 (09.09.84) of no fixed abode were jailed at Wood Green Crown Court on Monday, 12 February after pleading guilty to nine residential burglaries.

Major was sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment; Grintuch was jailed for five years.

On 18 August 2017, the pair forced entry into a block of flats in City Road, EC1.

Once inside, Major and Grintuch burgled three apartments, stealing designer bags and jewellery worth around £12,000.

Later the same day, the pair gained entry to a separate block of flats on the same road in EC1 after tailgating a resident in through the main door. On this occasion they burgled six apartments and stole items, including designer bags and jewellery, worth approximately £80,000.

Officers from Hackney CID launched an investigation and following analysis of CCTV, Major and Grintuch were identified as suspects. On 24 August, a car they used on the day of the burglaries was recovered in Brent – inside officers found some items that had been stolen.

The pair were located and interviewed on 22 November and subsequently charged with nine counts of burglary.

Detective Inspector Paul Ridley of Hackney CID said:

“Major and Grintuch were brazen in their actions, gaining entry into residential flats and carry out numerous burglaries.

“While some of the items they stole have been recovered and returned to their rightful owners, many other items remain outstanding.

“Burglary has a huge impact on homeowners, leaving them feeling insecure and vulnerable. I can only hope the sentences handed down give some reassurance to those affected by Major and Grintuch’s actions.”
