Cartwright — Cartwright RCMP thanks Sandwich Bay Retrievers Search and Rescue team for quick response

Cartwright RCMP is thanking the Sandwich Bay Retrievers Search and Rescue team for the quick response to call for service involving a snowmobiler in distress.

On the evening of January 22, 2025, police received a report of a snowmobiler who had gone through the ice on a pond near Cartwright. Within minutes, the team assembled and were able to locate and transport the snowmobiler back to town. At the time of the incident it was -23 degrees Celsius, making their quick response time crucial to the successful rescue.

Cartwright RCMP reminds snowmobilers to be mindful of ice conditions this time of year, to bring all the necessities in case of emergencies and to ensure that someone knows of your planned route and expected return time.
