Motorists can expect to see continued traffic enforcement over the holiday season by RCMP Traffic Services throughout the province. Numerous drivers were recently charged for various traffic offences by RCMP Traffic Services West.
At approximately 4:45 p.m., on December 20, 2024, RCMP Traffic Services West stopped a vehicle on the Trans-Canada Highway (TCH) in Deer Lake. The driver, a 34-year-old Springdale man, was operating the vehicle without a valid driver’s licence, registration, or insurance. He was ticketed for those offences and the vehicle was seized and impounded.
At approximately 12:30 a.m., on December 21, RCMP Traffic Services West, with the assistance of Deer Lake RCMP, conducted a traffic stop on the Main Road in Hampden. The driver, a 56-year-old Hampden man, had an outstanding warrant for his arrest. He showed signs of impairment and a small quantity of cocaine was located. The man was transported to the detachment where he later provided breath samples above the provincial limit. He was released from custody and is set to appear in court on multiple charges at a later date. His vehicle was seized and impounded.
Later that same morning, at approximately 3:30 a.m., RCMP Traffic Services West, along with Deer Lake RCMP, conducted a traffic stop on Peddles Lane in Deer Lake. The driver, a 28-year-old Pasadena man, showed signs of alcohol impairment. He failed a roadside breath test and was arrested for impaired driving. Back at the detachment, the man provided further samples that were more than one and a half times the legal limit. He was released from custody to appear in court at a later date. His vehicle was seized and impounded.
At approximately 11:00 p.m. on December 21, RCMP Traffic Services West, with the assistance of Bay St. George RCMP, conducted a traffic stop on the Main Road in Three Rock Cove. The driver, a 53-year-old Three Rock Cove man, showed signs of alcohol impairment. He provided a roadside breath sample which was above the provincial limit and was issued a licence suspension. His vehicle was seized and impounded.
At approximately 2:30 p.m., on December 22, RCMP Traffic Services West stopped a vehicle on Reid’s Lane in Deer Lake. The driver, a 58-year-old Deer Lake man, showed signs of alcohol impairment and provided a roadside breath sample that was above the provincial limit. The man was issued a driver’s licence suspension and his vehicle was seized and impounded.
Motorists can expect to see increased check points and traffic stops by RCMP Traffic Services this holiday season. Officers will be checking motorists for impaired driving offences, among other infractions. If you suspect a driver is impaired, please contact your local police or call 911 to make a report.
