Iqaluit — Suspect in Iqaluit Post Office Break and Enter identified

On November 25, 2024, the Nunavut RCMP published a news release asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect who had broken into the Iqaluit Post Office on October 5, 2024. The Iqaluit RCMP received a number of tips from the public and a suspect was identified.

On November 26, 2024, the Iqaluit RCMP arrested 39-year-old Akavak Mangitak, and charged him with:
• Break and Enter, Section 348(1)(b) C.C
• Theft of Mail, Section 356(1)(a) C.C

Mangitak is currently in custody at the Aaqqigiarvik Correctional Healing Facility (ACHF) on matters not related to the Post Office Break and Enter. His first court appearance is scheduled for December 19, 2024 in Iqaluit, Nunavut.
