Gander — Gander RCMP advises of spike in cabin break and enters, seeks public’s assistance

Gander District RCMP is investigating a recent spike in break and enters, particularly in remote cabin areas but also at churches and businesses, with 55 reports of break and enters in the last two months. The incidents have occurred in Carmanville, Lewisporte, Twillingate, Glovertown and New-Wes-Valley Detachment areas. In many cases, several cabins were entered within a short time period.

Investigations into these crimes is ongoing and evidence has been collected from numerous scenes. The RCMP asks the public to check video surveillance systems and trail cameras for unfamiliar/suspicious vehicles or persons in the various communities identified above.

Cabin owners are reminded to secure their properties and take valuables, including firearms, when leaving, even if only going away for a few days. Check your cabin often and have others keep an eye on your property when it is not occupied. Break-ins and suspicious activity should be reported as soon as possible to police.
