Lloydminster — Alberta RCMP Major Crime Unit investigates firearm complaint – Update #2

On June 3, 2024, the 17-year-old youth was brought before the North Battleford Provincial Court, where, following Nicholas Scott’s death, charges were consolidated and added. Regarding this case, the youth was charged with:

  • Second-degree murder;
  • Failure to comply with release order;
  • Possession of restricted firearm; and
  • Other firearm-related offences (x3).

The youth was remanded into custody, to appear at the Lloydminster Provincial Court in Saskatchewan on July 8, 2024.

Alberta RCMP Major Crime Unit investigates firearm complaint – Update

In the early morning of May 31, 2024, the victim of the aggravated assault, 19-year-old Nicolas Scott, succumbed to his injuries. An autopsy is scheduled this morning at City Hospital in Saskatoon. Following the results of the autopsy, additional charges are likely to be laid.

The thoughts of the Alberta RCMP are with the family and friends of Nicolas in this difficult time.

Alberta RCMP Major Crime Unit investigates firearm complaint

On May 27, 2024, at approximately 10:38 p.m., Lloydminster RCMP received a complaint stating that someone had been shot outside of an apartment complex in Lloydminster. Lloydminster RCMP responded, located the victim and some officers immediately started life-preserving efforts while others searched for the suspect. EMS took over the efforts on the victim and transported him to the hospital.

The victim has not yet been pronounced deceased, but the Alberta RCMP Major Crime Unit has taken carriage of the investigation.

On May 28, 2024, at 1 p.m., members conducted the arrest of a suspect. As a result of the investigation, a nearly 18-year-old youth was charged with aggravated assault. Other charges may be considered as the investigation progresses.

The youth was brought before a justice of the peace and remanded into custody. He is to appear at the North Battleford Provincial Court on May 30, 2024.
