Saskatchewan RCMP celebrates Pride 2024!

June is Pride Month and with it, the Saskatchewan RCMP celebrates 2SLGBTQIA+ employees and their achievements and contributions to our organization and the communities we serve.

The Queen City Pride Festival started June 7 in Regina. To kick off the celebration for RCMP employees, Saskatchewan RCMP Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Coordinator Patrick Pelletier raised the Pride Flag at Saskatchewan RCMP Headquarters.

Part of this annual 10-day festival is the Queen City Pride Parade which took place on Saturday, June 15. Saskatchewan RCMP employees, along with their families and friends, were joined by RCMP Depot Division employees to celebrate the 2SLGBTQ+ community! Regina’s downtown turned colourful with over 120 different groups participating in the parade.

Investigative Recap

June 10: RCMP investigating school bus collision in rural Rockglen, SK area

June 10: Saskatchewan RCMP’s Kindersley Detachment and Prince Albert Crime Reduction Team (CRT) executed search warrants in relation to an ongoing investigation.

Two search warrants were executed in Kindersley and one in Netherhill, SK. Saskatchewan RCMP’s Critical Incident Response Team assisted.

Officers located and seized:

– 198 grams of cocaine;

– two loaded firearms;

– an imitation firearm;

– ammunition;

– drug trafficking paraphernalia; and

– a gold bar and a sum of cash.

Three adult males were arrested as a result of this investigation.

Continued investigation determined the firearms were reported as stolen following/as a result of a May 23, 2024 break-in at a business in Kindersley. A pick-up truck had also been reported as stolen in relation to the same incident; it was located, burnt, outside of Kindersley two days later.

As a result of continued investigation, 28-year-old Jeffrey Proteau from Coleville is charged with:

– one count, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, Section 88, Criminal Code;

– one count, careless storage of a prohibited weapon, Section 86(2), Criminal Code;

– one count, unlicensed possession of a loaded prohibited weapon, Section 95(b), Criminal Code;

– one count, break and enter and steal firearm, Section 98, Criminal Code; and

– one count, theft of a motor vehicle, Section 333.1, Criminal Code.

Proteau is scheduled to appear in Kindersley Provincial Court on June 17, 2024.

41-year-old Alex Smarch from Kindersley is charged with:

– one count, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, Section 88, Criminal Code;

– one count, careless storage of a prohibited weapon, Section 86(2), Criminal Code; and

– one count, unlicensed possession of a firearm, Section 92(2), Criminal Code.

Smarch appeared in Kindersley Provincial Court on June 13, 2024.

48-year-old Arthur Cisna from Kindersley is charged with one count, possession for the purpose of trafficking, Section 5(2), Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

Cisna is scheduled to appear in Kindersley Provincial Court on July 16, 2024.

June 11: La Ronge RCMP investigating shooting

June 11: Maidstone RCMP on scene of serious collision on Highway #17

June 12: At approximately 11:20 a.m., Esterhazy RCMP received a report of a collision on Highway #9 west of Stockholm, SK.

Officers immediately responded. Investigation determined a motorcycle collided with a deer. The adult male driver of the motorcycle was declared deceased by EMS at the scene. The deceased has been identified as a 53-year-old male from Melville. His family has been notified.

Highway 39 was closed during initial investigation but has since re-opened. Esterhazy RCMP continues to investigate with the assistance of a Saskatchewan RCMP collision reconstructionist.

June 13: Three charged after trucks flee from police, loaded semi-automatic firearms tossed out window

June 15: At approximately 2:05 p.m., Saskatoon RCMP received a report of a collision on Highway #11, approximately four kilometres south of Saskatoon.

Officers immediately responded. Investigation determined a Dodge Ram collided with the back of a second pick-up truck hauling a camping trailer.

The driver and three passengers in the truck hauling the trailer were taken to hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening in nature.

Highway #11 was closed during initial investigation by Saskatoon RCMP and a Saskatchewan RCMP collision reconstructionist, but has since re-opened.

As a result of continued investigation, 22-year-old Farooz Fareed Ahmen Syed from Edmonton is charged with five counts, dangerous driving causing bodily harm, Section 320.13(2), Criminal Code.

He is scheduled to appear in Saskatoon Provincial Court on June 17, 2024.

Saskatoon RCMP continue to investigate. They ask members of the public who have dashcam footage of a black Dodge Ram with Alberta license plate CSN 7630 travelling northbound on Highway #11 around 2 p.m. on June 15 to contact police. They would also like to speak with anyone who stopped at the collision scene and has not yet talked to police.

Rosetown RCMP: did you speak to the man driving this truck?

On June 8, 2024, between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m., a dark-coloured GMC Sierra left the roadway and got stuck in a slough off of Highway 15, about three kilometres east of Sovereign, SK.

A single male occupant was seen with the vehicle. The male occupant was asking for people to pull him out. Police were called and by the time they arrived, the male was gone.

The truck and some of the property inside it were recently reported as stolen out of Alberta.

Rosetown RCMP continue to investigate.

Melfort investigating break and enter

On April 22, 2023, Melfort RCMP received a report of a vehicle that was stolen from a parking lot in Tisdale. The vehicle was described as a blue 1994 Chevrolet truck. Melfort RCMP responded immediately, working to locate the vehicle.

On April 25, 2023, Melfort RCMP received a report of a break and enter that occurred at a business in Melfort. Investigation has determined that an unknown individual or individuals broke into the business by ramming the garage door with a vehicle. Further investigation determined 60-70 paintball guns and various other gear were stolen from the building.

On April 26, 2023, Melfort RCMP received a report of stolen fuel from a gas station in Melfort. Melfort RCMP responded. Investigation determined an adult male in a grey truck stole approximately $90 of fuel from the gas station.

On April 26, 2023, Melfort RCMP received a report of a vehicle that was stolen from a business in the RM of Flett’s Springs. The vehicle was described as a red 2006 GMC Sierra. Melfort RCMP responded. Investigation determined that the red GMC truck was stolen and an abandoned blue truck that appeared to have been painted grey with a paint roller was left on the property. Investigators located and seized five masks, a paintball gun, a barrel of a paintball gun, three compressors, and a hopper from inside the blue/grey truck. Investigators are led to believe that the abandoned blue/grey truck is the same vehicle that was stolen on April 22 and used in the break and enter on April 26.

Melfort RCMP continue to investigate.
