Portage la Prairie — Portage la Prairie RCMP arrest male in stolen vehicle

On June 10, 2024, at approximately 6:00 pm, Portage la Prairie RCMP officers were on the lookout for a stolen vehicle out of the Selkirk area which was heading towards the Portage area.

Officers on patrol located the stolen vehicle driving at high speeds and dangerously on Highway 1 near Highway 240, in the RM of Portage la Prairie. For the safety of motorists, traffic was stopped by the Portage diversion and officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The stolen vehicle refused to stop and nearly struck a RCMP officer. The suspect then drove through the ditch in an attempt to flee but got stuck.

The driver and sole occupant was arrested.

Tommy Ste-Croix, 39, has been charged with Flight from Police, Assault with a Weapon, Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime and Fail to Comply.

He was remanded into custody.
