Investigative Recap

May 23: Saskatchewan RCMP’s Warrant Enforcement and Suppression Team (WEST) attended a residence on Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation in relation to an ongoing investigation to locate and arrest Lanny Joseph.

Lanny Joseph was wanted by Ahtahkakoop RCMP for failing to attend court for charges including assault causing bodily harm, carrying a concealed weapon, pointing a firearm, and break and enter. The charges were laid as a result of investigation into incidents between September 2022 and August 2023.

When officers arrived on scene, an adult male resisted arrest and fled on an ATV. The officers engaged their emergency lights and attempted a traffic stop but the ATV did not stop. Officers followed but did not pursue after assessing the safety risk. Saskatchewan RCMP’s Remote Piloted Aircraft Systems was deployed to conduct thorough searches of the area.

As a result of continued investigation, on May 29, WEST and Ahtahkakoop RCMP arrested the adult male at a residence on Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation.

32-year-old Lanny Joseph from Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation is charged with:

  • one count, flight from peace officer, Section 320.17, Criminal Code; and
  • one count, resists/obstruct peace officer, Section 129(a), Criminal Code.

He was also arrested on his outstanding warrant.

Lanny Joseph was scheduled to appear in Prince Albert Provincial Court on June 3, 2024.

May 28: Ponteix RCMP investigating fatal rollover

May 28: As a result of investigation, Saskatchewan RCMP’s Meadow Lake Crime Reduction Team (CRT) determined a wanted male was at a property on Big Island Lake Cree Territory. 32-year-old Jesse Dillon had been inadvertently released from court in Lloydminster on May 16 and was wanted by Lloydminster RCMP for being unlawfully at large, Section 145(1), Criminal Code.

CRT officers contained the property, then located and arrested Jesse Dillon without incident.

He appeared in Meadow Lake Provincial Court on May 30, 2024.

May 30: Melfort RCMP: two charged, firearm seized after investigation into report of armed individual

May 31: Saskatchewan RCMP investigating after police vehicle rammed

May 31: At approximately 6 p.m., Turnor Lake/Birch Narrows RCMP officers were on patrol on Birch Narrows Dene Nation. They observed a male known to be subject to court-ordered electronic monitoring and a 24-hour curfew. He was not at the residence he was supposed to be at.

Officers determined the male did not have permission from his probation officer to be where they observed him. As a result, they went to the male’s residence. He answered the door and the officers told him he was under arrest.

The male resisted. While an officer attempted to put handcuffs on him, the male pulled them both down the back stairs of the residence. The male continued to resist arrest until he was placed in the back of a police vehicle.

Both the male and the officer received medical treatment for injuries sustained during the incident, which were described as non-life-threatening in nature.

As a result of continued investigation, 21-year-old Ethan Tobac from Turnor Lake, SK is charged with:

– one count, assault on police officer causing bodily harm, Section 270.01(2), Criminal Code;

– one count, fail to comply with release order condition, Section 145(5)(a), Criminal Code;

– two counts, resist/obstruct peace officer, Section 129(a), Criminal Code; and

– one count, assault police officer, Section 270(2), Criminal Code.

He is scheduled to appear in La Loche Provincial Court on June 3, 2024.
