Bay Roberts — Bay Roberts RCMP investigates thefts of copper wire at NL Power Substations in Upper Island Cove and Clarke’s Beach

Bay Roberts RCMP is investigating recent break, enter and thefts at Newfoundland Power Substations in Upper Island Cove and Clarke’s Beach which occurred between May 22-30, 2024. Quantities of copper wire were stolen from each location.

The Crane’s Road Substation in Upper Island Cove was struck twice, once on May 22 and a second time between May 24-30. The Substation on Hill Avenue in Clarke’s Beach was struck on the morning of May 29. During this crime, suspect(s) severed a number of lines, including cell phone lines, which caused an outage to some cellular providers in the area.

It is likely these crimes are connected. The investigations are continuing.
