Vulcan — Southern Alberta Crime Reduction Unit recover numerous stolen vehicles

On April 7, 2024, Vulcan RCMP attended a property in rural Vulcan County in response to a complaint of a stolen vehicle. Upon arrival, a male fled the property in a stolen GMC Sierra pickup truck and was arrested shortly thereafter. One officer sustained a minor injury during the arrest.

On April 9, 2024, Southern Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit (SAD CRU), with the assistance of the RCMP Auto Theft Unit and Vulcan RCMP, executed a search warrant at the rural Vulcan County property, during which time the RCMP located the following:

  • 12 stolen pickup trucks
  • A stolen travel trailer
  • Two stolen utility trailers
  • Two stolen dirt bikes

There was also evidence leading them to believe the property was being used as a chop shop. All vehicles and trailers were stolen from Calgary and surrounding communities, and all registered owners have been notified.

A 30-year-old individual, a resident of Okotoks, Alta., has been charged with the following:

  • Flight from police,
  • Assault on a police officer causing bodily harm,
  • Resist arrest,
  • Fail to comply with release conditions (x6),
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000,
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000,
  • Possession of a controlled substance- crystal meth,
  • Possession of a controlled substance- fentanyl.

After a judicial interim release hearing, the 30-year-old individual was remanded into custody and will be appearing in Alberta Court of Justice in Lethbridge, Alta., on April 26, 2024.
