A 26-year-old Corner Brook man was stopped by RCMP Traffic Services West this morning for speeding in a construction zone.
Shortly before 8:00 a.m., an officer with RCMP Traffic Services West was patrolling in a construction zone on the Trans-Canada Highway near Massey Drive and observed a vehicle traveling 113 km/h in the reduced 50 km/h construction zone. A construction crew was present and working at the time and a traffic stop was conducted.
The driver was ticketed for speeding in excess of 51 km/h in a construction zone which is associated with a minimum fine of $1,170.00 and six demerit points. His licence was suspended and the vehicle was seized and impounded.
RCMP Traffic Services West remains dedicated to road safety. Speeding in construction zones places those who are working at an increased level of risk. Motorists are asked to pay extra attention in construction zones and travel within the posted reduced speed limit.
