On March 17, 2024 at approximately 10:20 p.m., Prince Albert RCMP received a report of an attempted break and enter on Cote Drive in the RM of Buckland.
At approximately 11:40 p.m., officers located a vehicle matching that description parked in a lot near the intersection of 6 Avenue East and 28 Street East in Prince Albert. Officers engaged their emergency lights and approached the vehicle. The vehicle rammed the police vehicles several times. None of the officers reported injuries. One police vehicle was damaged.
The driver of the vehicle fled from police on foot. One adult female occupant of the vehicle was arrested on a warrant from Prince Albert Police Service.
With the assistance of Prince Albert Police Service patrol officers and Police Dog Services, the driver was located and arrested in the 26th Street East area in the early morning hours of March 18.
Subsequent investigation determined the suspect vehicle had been reported as stolen to Prince Albert Police Service.
As a result of investigation, 26-year-old Mario Caribou from Sandy Bay, SK is charged with:
- two counts, assault on police officer with weapon, Section 270.01(2), Criminal Code;
- two counts, resist peace officer, Section 129(a), Criminal Code;
- one count, flight from peace officer, Section 320.17, Criminal Code; and
- one count, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, Section 354(1)(a), Criminal Code.
He is scheduled to appear in Prince Albert Provincial Court on March 19.
