From March 8 to 11, 2024, the Saskatchewan RCMP’s La Ronge Crime Reduction Team (CRT) and Police Dog Services worked with Pelican Narrows detachment officers who continued to conduct targeted enforcement projects in the community of Pelican Narrows.
In total, officers seized five illegal firearms, 12 grams of cocaine, 21 grams of methamphetamine, ammunition and a sum of cash. Five people were arrested, charged and remanded into custody as a result of investigations over the weekend, which include:
March 8: Officers received a report of gunshots being fired by a group of individuals, outdoors, who then fled the area. One male who fled the scene threw something as he was running. The male, who was in possession of ammunition, was located and arrested by officers. Police Dog Services then located the item that was thrown by the male – a restricted firearm. 20-year-old Corbin Custer from Pelican Narrows, was charged with one count of careless use of a firearm, one count of possession of restricted firearm, and one count unauthorized possession of a firearm.
March 8-9: Officers received a report of gunshots being fired inside a residence. Once officers arrived at the residence where they located and seized two restricted firearms. Officers later located and arrested 28-year-old Kelly Ballatyne from Pelican Narrows, who was then charged with one count of weapons trafficking, one count of unsafe storage of firearms, and three counts of weapons possession contrary to order and fail to surrender authorization.
March 9: Officers conducted a routine condition check for an individual at a residence in Pelican Narrows. Upon arriving, officers located and seized ammunition, 20 grams of methamphetamine, 12 grams of cocaine and a sum of cash. 24-year-old Sunshine Ballantyne from Pelican Narrows, was arrested and charged with one count of possession of cocaine for purpose of trafficking, one count of possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking, possession of property obtained by crime less than or equal $5,000, one count of fail to comply with release order condition, and one count of weapons possession contrary to order and fail to surrender authorization.
March 10: Officers received a report of two individuals chasing and discharging a firearm at a lone male on a residential street in Pelican Narrows. Officers responded and the two individuals with the firearm fled the scene. During the pursuit to arrest the two individuals, the firearm was thrown behind a residence which was later recovered by Police Dog Services. Officers located and arrested 23-year-old Drea Mccallum from Pelican Narrows, who was charged with one count of possession of restricted firearm, one count of unauthorized possession of a firearm, one count of possession of weapon for dangerous use, one count of assault with a weapon, and one count of possession of firearm with tampered serial number. The second individual was arrested and cannot be identified as per the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
March 10: Officers located and seized a stolen firearm during a search for a wanted individual at a residence. The individual cannot be identified as per the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Together, we continue to take these dangerous weapons and drugs off the streets – which is incredibly important in reducing violence in Pelican Narrows,” says S/Sgt Ryan Davies, Detachment Commander of Pelican Narrows.
