On March 2, 2024, at approximately 3:55 pm, Grand Rapids RCMP received a report of a shooting at a residence, located on River Road, and that a 17-year-old male required medical attention.
Officers attended the scene and located the youth with a life-threatening injury. He was transported to the nursing station via police vehicle where he was later life-flighted to Winnipeg.
The investigation has uncovered that the victim, along with a 16-year-old male youth, were in a bedroom inside this residence when the other occupants of the home reported hearing a loud bang.
The 16-year-old, who was not physically injured, left the home before the arrival of police.
The victim was provided medical attention until police arrived.
The investigation into the shooting led to the drafting and execution of a search warrant at the residence in an effort to locate the firearm used. Upon completion of the search, no firearm was located.
