Dawson City — Police investigating fraudulent messages claiming to be from health care providers

Source: Royal Canadian Mounted Police

Dawson City RCMP is warning the public of fraudulent text messages being distributed in the community from someone who is impersonating a doctor. Medical professionals will not request information via text message and anyone who receives these messages should report them to police.

Anyone who has received a suspicious phone call, text message, or other communication from someone claiming to be a doctor or other health care provider should not provide any of the information requested. Please make a note of the phone number that reached out if possible, and take a screenshot of any messages to support the police investigation. Contact police to report the suspicious communications. If Yukoners are unsure of the legitimacy of a call or text message requesting health-related information, they should reach out to their health care provider for confirmation.

At this time, investigators do not believe that patient data has been breached, or that doctors or other health care providers are involved in the distribution of the fraudulent text messages.
