Inuvik — Inuvik RCMP execute search warrant

The Inuvik RCMP investigation into drug trafficking has resulted in a number of charges being laid. The following people have been charged jointly with the possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and possession of the proceeds of crime:

· Wellington Cardozo (24) of British Columbia;

· Hindowa Sama (21) of British Columbia;

· Marcia Day (47) of Inuvik, NT.

During the search, RCMP recovered approximately 32 grams of crack-cocaine and over seven thousand dollars in cash. Officers also recovered a number of mobile phones and weapons, including bear spray.

“The accused persons in this matter were targeting vulnerable populations through the illicit sale of dangerous substances. The Inuvik RCMP will not tolerate individuals that come to our community and undertake these illegal activities. To those that allow criminal activities to occur in your residence, you will also be held accountable under the law,” states Staff Sergeant Jesse Aubin, Detachment Commander of the Inuvik RCMP.

Inuvik NT, November 9th, 2023

The Inuvik RCMP executed a search warrant on the evening of November 9th, 2023. The Northwest Territories Emergency Response Team (ERT) assisted in the execution of the warrant at Lakeview Apartments on Boot Lake Road. The warrant execution was a proactive enforcement action as part of a drug trafficking investigation.

This incident is still under investigation and there may an increased police activity in the area throughout the evening. As the investigation is on-going, no further information is available at this time. Additional information about this incident will be provided in the future.
