Whitehorse RCMP is continuing to investigate after two people were treated at hospital for serious injuries stemming from a fight outside of a bar on October 23. Police hope that the public may be able to provide photos or video of the incident.
On Monday, October 23, 2023, at approximately 10:30 pm, police received a call about a fight in progress outside of an establishment in Porter Creek. A suspect had been detained by another patron after two people were injured by an edged weapon.
The officers who attended appreciated assistance from the public in stopping any further dangerous actions, but encourage the public not to put themselves into situations that could be dangerous.
Two people were treated with serious but not life-threatening injuries. Police will not share further information about victims.
Josh Mathias, age 26, of British Columbia, had a first court appearance at Whitehorse Territorial Court. He is charged with several offences, including two counts of aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for the purpose of committing an offence, and breach of his probation order. He was held in custody after his court appearance.
Whitehorse RCMP believes that there may be members of the public who have photos, videos, or dashcam footage of this incident. Anyone with this information is encouraged to contact police. The incident took place around 10:30pm on Wann Road in Whitehorse and part of the fight took place outside near a parking lot and on sidewalks.
