Onion Lake — WANTED: Onion Lake RCMP seek public assistance in whereabouts of Tristan Whitstone

On October 16, 2023 at approximately 2:00 p.m., RCMP officers received information that Tristan Whitstone was seen in a red car. Tristan is currently wanted for charges related to a serious assault that occurred in the Onion Lake Detachment area in August, 2023.

The red car was located by an RCMP officer at a residence in Onion Lake. When officers approached the residence, two individuals entered the red car – one matching the description of Tristan Whitstone – and fled the scene. Officers followed the car, which stopped and both individuals exited and fled on foot.

Officers engaged in a foot pursuit and arrested the passenger of the vehicle – 23-year-old MacKenzie Cannepotatoe from Onion Lake, Saskatchewan. Cannepotatoe was wanted on warrants out of Onion Lake and North Battleford, Saskatchewan.

As a result of this investigation, Cannepotatoe is charged with:

  • One count of possession of methamphetamine – Section 4(1) CC
  • One count of failure to comply with release order conditions – Section 145(5)(a) CC
  • One count of resisting a peace officer – Section 129(a) CC
  • One count of unauthorized possession of a firearm or restricted firearm – Section 95(b) CC

His next court appearance is November 1, 2023 in Lloydminster Provincial Court.

Tristan Whitstone was not apprehended during the foot pursuit and is still wanted.

As a result of continuing investigation into the incidents on October 16 and other ongoing police investigations, Tristan Whitstone was charged with:

  • One count of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 – Section 354(1)(a) CC
  • One count of flight from police – Section 320.17 CC
  • One count of unauthorized possession of firearm – Section 91(1) CC
  • One count of resisting arrest – Section 129(a) CC
  • One count of uttering threats against a person – Section 264.1(1)(1) CC
  • One count of kidnapping with firearm – Section 279 (1)(a) CC
  • One count of possess weapon for dangerous purpose – Section 88 CC
  • One count of possession of firearm in motor vehicle – Section 94 CC
  • One count of intimidation of a justice system participant – Section 423.1(b) CC
  • One count of possessing firearm knowing unauthorized – Section 92(1) CC

Tristan may be in the Onion Lake area and Onion Lake RCMP are actively working to locate him. Tristan is described as being approximately 6’1″ tall, weighing approximately 240 lbs, with brown eyes and black hair.

Officers believe Tristan Whitstone may be with 21-year-old Shanayah Hill. As a result of ongoing police investigation, on October 17, 2023, Shanayah Hill was charged with:

  • One count of uttering threats against a person – Section 264.1(1)(a) CC
  • One count of kidnapping with firearm – Section 279(1)(a) CC
  • One count of possession of firearm in motor vehicle – Section 94 CC
  • One count of intimidation of a justice system participant – Section 423.1(b) CC

Shanayah Hill is described as being approximately 5’6″ tall, 140 pounds with dark hair.
