Whitehorse RCMP and Yukon Wildland Fire are seeking assistance from the public in locating a number of items recently stolen from the Wildland Fire headquarters near Two Mile Hill.
Police believe that sometime overnight between October 17 and 18, someone cut a chain on a gate that secured the wildland fire compound in Whitehorse, and used a vehicle to take a flatbed trailer and a total of six barrels of gasoline. The trailer has been specifically modified with large tanks used to store and mix firefighting solutions, and should be easily identifiable as being a specialized piece of equipment.
Two ATVs have also been stolen recently from the same Wildland Fire headquarters. This theft is believed to have occurred overnight on October 16/17. Photos and further descriptors may be released when available.
These thefts can affect the ability of Yukon Wildland Fire to respond to emergency calls, and have a negatively impact on public safety in the territory.
“Police work closely with our public safety partners including Wildland Fire,” says Sgt. Brent Edwards, Whitehorse RCMP Operations NCO. “It’s disappointing to know that their ability to respond efficiently and safely to fires could be impacted by this thoughtless theft.”
Please note that the images attached are of a similar trailer, not the exact model that is missing.
