Fort Smith — Fort Smith RCMP seize handgun and drugs during investigation

On October 11th, 2023, the Fort Smith RCMP responded to a complaint of two men who were unlawfully inside a residence in Fort Smith. RCMP officers attended the residence and arrested the two men who were attempting to leave in a taxi. During a search incidental to the arrest, a loaded handgun was located on one of the men. Officers also found two loaded magazines, 35 tablets suspected to be oxycontin, 7 grams of cocaine and approximately $600 in cash.

The two men, 20-year-old Isiah Zehimi of Tara, Ontario and 20-year-old Ethienne Ruhumuriza of Edmonton, Alberta are facing charges including:

  • Being Unlawfully in a Dwelling House
  • Possession of the Proceeds of Crime
  • Possession of Controlled Substance for the purpose of Trafficking

Additionally, Ruhumuriza is facing charges of:

  • Carrying a concealed weapon
  • Possession of a restricted firearm without a licence
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
