On October 5, 2023, at approximately 8:45 am, Chemawawin RCMP received a report of a break-in that occurred overnight at the Nursing Station and ambulance bay in Easterville.
Video surveillance shows that at 2:00 am, four suspects are seen breaking into the Nursing Station ambulance bay. At approximately 2:20 am, the same four suspects are seen attempting to break into the Chemawawin RCMP Detachment. After several failed attempts, they leave and are last seen behind the Nursing Station. About an hour later, the suspects are seen leaving the Nursing Station carrying a television and other items including a small quantity of prescription medication. One of the suspects is carrying a fire extinguisher, approaches a dog laying on the ground, and sprays it with the fire extinguisher. It is believed the dog ran away and didn’t suffer any serious injuries.
A short time later the suspects return to the Nursing Station and steal the vehicle that is parked out front of the building.
The Pas RCMP locate the stolen vehicle on Highway 60, and conduct a traffic stop.
The driver and sole occupant, a 15-year-old male, was arrested without incident.
It was determined that earlier that morning, The Pas RCMP had arrested three youths for a break and enter at a mall on Edwards Avenue, in The Pas. Officers were able to confirm that those three youths were also responsible for the break-in at the Nursing Station in Chemawawin.

“The break-in and damage done to the Nursing Station was extensive and caused them to have to close for several days, ” said Sergeant Andrew Cowan, Detachment Commander of Chemawawin RCMP. ” This put our community members at risk as anyone in need of medical care had to be diverted to Grand Rapids or The Pas.”
