On Oct. 8, 2023, Beaverlodge RCMP received a call from EMS stating they were transporting a male who was injured under suspicious circumstances in Horse Lake First Nation. The victim, a 47-year-old resident of Horse Lake First Nation, was transported to the hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. Major Crimes Unit took carriage of the investigation, in partnership with Beaverlodge RCMP, Western Alberta District General Investigation Section and the Grande Prairie Forensic Identification Unit.
As a result of the investigation, a 36-year-old individual, a resident of Horse Lake First Nation, was charged with second-degree murder.
The 36-year-old individual was brought before a justice of the peace where they were remanded into custody with a court appearance on Oct. 16, 2023, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Grande Prairie, Alta.
