Update: on October 12, 2023, a charge of manslaughter was laid against a 16-year-old boy in connection with the death of the 11-year-old boy. The youth is scheduled to appear in court on October 26.

An 11-year-old boy has died from injuries sustained following an assault with a weapon in Shippagan, N.B.
On November 3, 2022, members of the Lamèque RCMP responded to a report of an assault with a weapon outside of a residence in Shippagan. When members arrived on scene, they found that an 11-year-old boy had been struck in the face with a kick scooter by a 15-year-old boy. The 11-year-old boy was transported to hospital. It was later determined that his injuries were serious and possibly life-threatening.
On November 5, the 11-year-old boy died in hospital as a result of his injuries.
On November 7, police arrested a 15-year-old boy in connection with the investigation. He is set to be released from custody, and is scheduled to appear in Bathurst Provincial Court on January 26, 2023.
The New Brunswick RCMP Major Crime Unit is continuing the investigation.
