On September 22, 2023, at approximately 10:55 pm, officers on patrol were driving by the Thompson RCMP Detachment when they saw a male banging on the door. Officers approached the male, who was obviously injured. He indicated he had been stabbed. Officers immediately began providing first aid while calling for Emergency Medical Services.

When the 30-year-old male victim, from Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation, had been taken to local hospital, officers then followed the blood trail to the nearby library. Realizing the incident likely occurred within range of the detachment video cameras, the footage was checked and the entire incident had been captured.

Descriptions of the two youths seen on camera stabbing the victim were provided to officers on patrol. The two male youths, 16 and 15 years of age, were located nearby. The 16-year-old was arrested without incident. The 15-year-old attempted to flee, but was quickly apprehended. The weapon was located on the 15-year-old.

The two suspects have been charged with Aggravated Assault and remain in custody.

The victim was transported to Winnipeg hospital for emergency surgery, where he remains in stable condition with serious injuries.
