Yukon RCMP is informing the public of an on-going sexualized assault investigation.
Any additional victims or witnesses are encouraged to reach out to police or seek assistance from community resources.
On September 14, 2023, Whitehorse RCMP was made aware of allegations of a sexualized assault at an organization that provides support services to vulnerable people. The suspect in the investigation was a staff member at the time of the alleged offence.
Victor Omale, age 37 of Whitehorse, was arrested on September 14 and released on conditions, meant to protect the victim, and pending future court appearances. He faces one charge of sexual assault, contrary to section 271, Criminal Code.
The organization that employed Mr. Omale at the time of the offence is aware of the allegation and has been cooperative throughout the investigation. Police are aware that he has also recently worked at other social service organizations, and these organizations have been contacted by police and are also cooperating with the investigation. Police will not be naming the organizations in order to protect the identity and security of the victim.
Yukon RCMP Specialized Response Unit are the lead investigators on this file. It is possible that there are other victims who have not yet sought out support, and investigators ask that anyone with information contact police or reach out to another available resource.
