St. Anthony — RCMP NL executes search warrant in Goose Cove; two men facing drug charges

As part of an ongoing investigation by the St Anthony RCMP, 34-year old Troy McCarthy and a 56-year-old man, both of Goose Cove, were arrested on September 13 following the search of a home in Goose Cove.

On Wednesday, St. Anthony RCMP, with assistance from Roddickton and Port Saunders RCMP officers, attended the home in Goose Cove with a warrant to search the property, authorized under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA). Officers located and seized a quantity of drugs, cash, contraband cigarettes and other evidence consistent with drug trafficking.

The 56-year-old man, charged with one count of Trafficking Cocaine, was released to attend court at a later date. His name cannot be shared at this time as the charge has not yet been sworn in court.

McCarthy attended court in St Anthony on Thursday, September 14, and is charged with numerous offences which include:

  • Trafficking Cocaine – Section 5(2) CDSA
  • Possession of Cocaine – Section 4(1) CDSA
  • Selling of Tobacco Products – Section 121.1(1) Criminal Code (CC)
  • Unlawful Possession of Contraband – Section 32(9) Revenue Administration Act
  • Unlawful Possession or Sale of Tobacco Products – Section 32 Excise Act
  • Possess Cannabis for the purpose of selling – Section 10(2) Cannabis Act (CA)
  • Alter the chemical or physical properties of Cannabis – Section 12(1)(b) CA
  • Distribute Illicit Cannabis – Section 9(1) CA

McCarthy was released from court on several strict court-ordered conditions.

One individual, who was present during the search, was released on scene without charges.

The investigation is ongoing.
