September 2, 2023 Seacow Pond – RCMP issue an Alert in response to sword attack in Seacow Pond. Anyone with information is asked to contact West Prince RCMP 902-853-9300.
On September 1, 2023, at 9:30 p.m. RCMP responded to a report of two people who were attacked on the beach at Seacow Pond. RCMP were able to assist the victims quickly, arriving 10 minutes later. Police learned that an unknown man wearing a dark surgical mask and carrying a sword approached three people on the beach. He attacked a woman and a youth and then fled on foot. The youth suffered minor injuries but the 42-year-old woman suffered serious, but non-life-threatening injuries, the third person was uninjured. Witnesses saw the man going through back yards in Seacow Pond. RCMP dog, drone, Major Crime, RCMP Forensic Ident Unit and multiple Detachment Officers responded to this incident. The motivation behind this incident is still unknown.
Police employed the Provincial Emergency Measures Intrusive Alert System. An Alert was issued for the area surrounding Seacow Pond where residents were asked to lock their doors and stay away from windows. The Alert was cancelled hours later as there did not appear to be an immediate threat to the public. As with any alert people may wonder why they did not receive an alert on their cell phone. Police targeted cell phones in Northern Prince County only. Alerts are intended to reach affected people in instances were there exists a potential immediate threat to the public. Police continue to ask residents to exercise vigilance, and lock doors.
The accused is described as approximately 5’10” wearing a dark mask and possibly a green hoodie.
