On July 22, at approximately 7:30 a.m., RCMP Traffic Services initiated a traffic stop on Highway 6 south of Grosse Isle, in the RM of Rosser.
Following a conversation with the driver and passenger, RCMP believed the pair – who had been travelling overnight from Thompson to Winnipeg – were in possession of proceeds of crime and arrested them.
A large sum of cash was found in the male passenger’s pants pocket and in the female driver’s purse. In total, more than $10,000 cash was found and seized by RCMP.
Upon further investigation, RCMP determined the male suspect had given officers a name other than his own and that he was wanted on an unendorsed warrant of arrest for drug trafficking.
RCMP subsequently obtained a warrant to search the male suspect’s residence in Winnipeg. The warrant was executed a short time later by Traffic Services with the support of the Manitoba Integrated Law Enforcement Team’s northern unit (MILET North) and the Emergency Response Team (ERT).
Once inside the residence, officers found and seized approximately one kilogram of methamphetamine, 700 suspected fentanyl pills, score sheets and other items.
Malcolm Lado, 23, of Winnipeg is charged with:
- Drug possession for the purpose of trafficking x2;
- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000;
- Resisting/obstructing a peace officer; and
- Failure to comply with a release order condition.
A 24-year-old female, from Winnipeg, faces a charge of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000. She was released on a notice to appear in court in November.
