A man has been charged as part of an investigation into a fatal collision in Romford.
Police were called to the Whalebone Lane of the A12 in Romford on Sunday, 19 July at 21:20hrs following reports of a collision involving a car and a motorbike.
Officers attended with the London Ambulance Service, London’s Air Ambulance and the London Fire Brigade.
Despite best efforts of emergency services, the motorcyclist – 28-year-old Anwar Shinwari sadly died at the scene. His next-of-kin continue to be supported by specialist officers.
The driver of the car left the scene on foot, and an investigation was launched within the Met’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit.
On Saturday, 25 July a 45-year-old man was arrested in connection with the investigation.
Lee Culleton, 45 (25.12.1981) of Rattwick Drive, Canvey Island has since been charged with causing death by dangerous driving, failing to stop, driving without insurance, driving whilst disqualified and fraudulent use of a registration mark.
He appeared at Thames Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 27 July and was remanded into custody. He will next appear at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Tuesday, 25 August.
