On July 23, 2026, at approximately 8:30 p.m, the Iqaluit RCMP responded to a report of a disturbance at a residence in Joamie Court.
Upon arrival police located a 39-year-old man who had suffered a life-threatening stab wound. Local emergency services transported the man to the Qikiqtani General Hospital where he was stabilized and medevac’d to Ottawa, Ontario.
On July 24, 2026, police arrested Kevin Mathewsie (age 28) and charged him with:
- Attempt to Commit Murder, Section 239(1)(b) C.C
- Aggravated Assault, Section 268 C.C
- Two counts of Breach Probation, Section 733.1(1) C.C
Mathewsie was remanded into custody, and his next court appearance is scheduled for August 11, 2026, in Iqaluit, Nunavut.
