FBI Omaha and Partners Coordinate Multi-Agency Fugitive Operation to Combat Violent Crime
OMAHA—The FBI Omaha Field Office, in partnership with the U.S. Marshals Service Metro Fugitive Task Force, the Omaha Police Department, and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, conducted an operation this week locating and arresting fugitives across the Omaha metro region as part of the FBI’s Summer Heat initiative.
Summer Heat is the FBI’s nationwide initiative targeting violent crime during the summer months. As part of this effort, the FBI launched a multi-pronged offensive to crush violent crime. By surging resources alongside state and local partners, executing federal warrants on violent criminals and fugitives, and dismantling violent gangs nationwide, the FBI and our partners are aggressively restoring safety in our communities across the country.
Yesterday over 60 law enforcement personnel in the Omaha metro region participated in the targeted enforcement operations. Twenty-eight federal and local arrests were made pursuant to outstanding criminal warrants. In conjunction with arrests, two firearms were seized.
Special Agent in Charge of FBI Omaha Eugene Kowel credited the vital importance of multi-agency teamwork to the operation, stating, “From dawn to dusk yesterday we had teams throughout the region apprehending major violent offenders, drug traffickers, subjects charged with sexual abuse of children, and other fugitives as part of our Summer Heat initiative. This joint effort reflects our unwavering commitment to identify and apprehend those who choose to inflict violence and traffic drugs in our neighborhoods,”
Omaha Police Chief Todd Schmaderer advised, “The Omaha Police Department is proud to partner with federal and local law enforcement in prioritizing the removal of dangerous criminals from our city streets. These collaborative efforts will have a meaningful and measurable impact on enhancing the safety of our community.”
Douglas County Sheriff Aaron Hanson shared, “The Douglas County Sherrif’s Office Special Operations Group is proud to work with our federal and local partners to ensure that these high-risk, dangerous, repeat offenders are off the street and no longer victimizing innocent people in our community.”
We would like to thank all the agencies who supported this operation, to include the Council Bluffs Police Department and the Bellevue Police Department.
We encourage anyone who has information which can help us to fight violent crime in our community to call FBI Omaha at 402-493-8688 or submit a tip online at tips.fbi.gov. If you require an emergency response, please call 911.
