Detectives are appealing for victims of sexual assault or robbery to contact them after a man was charged with a series of offences allegedly committed on Sunday, 19 January.
A 23-year-old man was arrested in the City of London at around 10:25hrs on Sunday, 19 January, following an incident in which a man had sexually assaulted two women by touching them over their clothing.
Fast-paced enquiries, including analysis of CCTV and interviews with victims, linked the man to a series of incidents in Islington, Camden and the City that morning which were being urgently investigated by officers from the Met and City of London Police.
Between around 06:30hrs and 10:25hrs, a total of ten female victims were approached by a man who either sexually assaulted them by touching, or attempted to steal property. On one occasion he made off with a woman’s bag.
During a number of the incidents on Sunday morning, the man was riding a bicycle. He is described as a Black man, 5ft 11ins in height and wearing a beanie hat and dark grey coat.
Officers are asking anyone who may have been a victim of sexual touching or robbery to report these offences to police by calling 101 or visiting the met.police.uk website. Detective Inspector Anna Deighton, one of the senior detectives investigating crime in Camden and Islington, said: “Following Sunday’s arrest, detectives are making urgent enquiries to identify any potentially related offences.
“I urge any victims of sexual offences or robbery to please contact police. I can assure them they will be provided with any support they need, and the information given to police will help us to build a more complete picture of offending as we continue to focus on tackling violence against women and girls in London.”
The arrested man appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 21 January, charged with six counts of sexual assault, two counts of common assault and one count each of robbery and attempted theft.
He was remanded in custody to next appear at Snaresbrook Crown Court on 12 February.
